Economy declines so does the Radio Market Cutting jobs

The Economy is slipping and even big corporations have to take extreme measures, I am sure there will be more layoffs to come at clear channel and other radio station companies, they need to cut back for the $$$$$

I Think the radio market eventually will all be part time no benefits

Radio Jobs become more scarce by the day , long waiting list to get in be happy if your already in the business i guess

it's like out with the old in with the new, or the old come back almost like a broken record that somehow repairs itself sometimes.

corporations only care about $$$ you don't deliver they will throw you like trash plain and simple

I'm not sure if one can be happy in today's enviroment. Always wondering if you are next, low wages with increasing health costs, long hours, and let's face it, producing a product that cannot compete with advanced technology. After announcements like the one today, I'm curious if these events are ever discussed in any broadcast class or ignored to keep the seats filled?

well i attended a broadcast school there budget and this kind of thing is discussed that once you get your foot in the door your golden you will move around the radio field, but there are so many people who have high hopes of getting a job right after broadcast school is merely impossible these days, maybe 5 yrs ago or so, things are changing for the worst in radio hopefully there will be brighter days.

you must have luck and talent and do what you must to enter radio even if it's at the very bottom of the totem pole to work yourself up.

but when you first sign up at broadcast school they give you high hopes until your teacher actually tells you the truth about radio, but they don't go far into today's reality.

some have better luck going to broadcast school and moving to a location outside of there hometown more likely out of state they grew up to find a decent radio job.

It seems that the people who work the hardest and make low money seem to get let go while the ones with the big salaries who could afford to take some down time just keep on keeping on

This is not about the economy: this is about years of bad decisions by Clear Channel and the $18 billion debt it incurred in the quest for "economies of scale." Their decline began back when the economy was still hot, almost from the moment they bought Jacor.

Broadcasting schools, or any college that still offers it as a major, should be sued for stealing suckers money...we still run spots that talk about the glamor of radio and production(including video, which is the new sucker degree), Be a STAR!...there are maybe 12,000 jobs in radio across the whole country, and 250,000 new people a year thinking they will be the next big thing...or thinking they'll be editing the new Bruno Mars video...shame on the people blowing smoke up your...

yeah that's the thing garnet these days you can't walk in thinking your gonna be hot shit or your gonna get right on the air it takes stepping stones to get to that position, it's not how it works, they look for talent, good attitude and for you to boost ratings so they can make $$$$ off ya they care less about anything else.

yell i might of wasted 10,000 going to the new school but maybe i will get my chance someday ... the way radio is going now, I don't know though just gonna hope for the best continue to move forward , I do have 10 ys of on-air college radio expierence.

I am not after the money really just the expierence , I am on disability so I can only do part time anyhow.

I can tell the nervousness out there at all radio stations especially those morning shows who still have two people, seems like alot of radio companies are kicking out one and leaving one like chuck taylor he got booted off mornings on b95.5 and laura remained.

Jamie Stayed and John Was laid off

the ladies are getting the upper hand is the albany radio market changing to make way for more females on air?

were yet to see more cuts from clear channel and who knows who else, if i was on-air now I would have a back up plan , this market is unpredictable all about saving money to hire those who are willing to make less to do more.

I will tell you alot of stations are voicetracking more to save money then to do an live on-air shift because it costs them more money to pay you out of there pockets.

Looking at the local radio market in albany there are way too many of air talents on these stations.

big cut backs clear channel is starting this process not sure if other radio companies will follow

Please allow me to tell you with full confidence-- it's ignored to keep the seats filled. Otherwise, students would R-U-N out of the doors of the schools (or "schools", as we have around here) and get a useful degree in Marketing or Business.
