ED Hume (Gardening in America) aired its last episode on TV

Ed's show has aired on KONG since the early 2000s, but before that he was on KOMO for a number of years on Sunday mornings. I hope he enjoys a well-deserved retirement.
Too bad we can't see Gardening with Ciscoe here in Yakima anymore...thank you TEGNA for shutting down NWCN. He was informative even east of the Cascades.

I hadn't realized his TV show was still airing. KOMO-AM canned his radio show many years ago in favor of brokered programming.

My grandmother, who kept a beautiful garden, used to watch his show every weekend... 30 years ago.

Ed Hume was purely "Seattle", kind of soft spoken, always polite, and with a certain Nordic sensibility. (Though I don't know if that was his ancestry). He was in some sense the "anti-tv personality" as he was mellow, warm and when he did offer humor it was subtle. Again, totally Seattle. Best wishes to him in retirement.

Ed's program has been syndicated nationally and to Japan. I definitely recognize the name, so it must have aired in Portland at one time.

He also has a line of flower and vegetable seeds available at grocery and hardware stores. I have had real good luck with the pumpkins, zucchini, sunflowers, lettuce, corn and peas. You can literally plant a 100% Ed Hume garden. This years my garden is about 45% Ed Hume.

Indeed it did air in Portland. King Broadcasting made it available to KGW, and perhaps there was a syndication deal after KING divested.
