Ed Lover Out at Power 1051; Lineup Shakeup; New Morning Show Rumors...

From the news page here at www.radio-info.com: http://www.radio-info.com/news/ed-lover-is-out-at-clear-channels-power-1051

Ed Lover is out at Clear Channel’s “Power 105.1” WWPR

WWPR (Power 105.1) New York has released its morning man Ed Lover, along with producer Sarah O’Connor. In addition, midday lady De Ja is out, with morning co-host Malikah Mallette moving to the midday slot. Ed Lover has been on “Power” since 2006, and prior to that, he was part of the Ed Lover and Doctor Dre Morning Show heard on rival WQHT “Hot 97.” The rumor on the streets have a new team coming to Power – market vet Miss Info (now heard on Sirius XM and previously heard on WQHT), former WPHI morning man Charlamagne (and onetime co-host for the syndicated Wendy Williams show heard on New York’s WBLS), and WWPR pm driver DJ Envy. There's no official word from the station on the new morning show plans.

MISS jones moving from power 99 to power 105 in nyc

this could help with guests better on that show

then cc can take the show national if she does it from nyc

I wouldn't be surprised if the original story has a typo or "miss"-information {pardon the pun ;)}. Poster Mike's theory makes sense since both Power 99 Philly (Miss Jones current employer) & Power 105~1 are Clear Channel stations. I believe there was a similar arrangement when Star & Buc Wild were broadcast in NYC & Philly a few years ago.

o my wow what a shake up. i didn't know miss info left hot 97 too.

Not a surprise about Ed's ousting. The guy is what, like 55 years old? If the station wants any kind of connection with its young listeners, it's going to have to develop and present talent that's closer in age to the target demo.

Same goes for Hot 97. Flex and Angie are both in their 40's - they're old enough to be the parents of most of their listeners. The other air talent is also getting kind of creaky.

Hip hop = youth culture, and the marquee air talent at both stations is far from youthful. Time to retire the oldsters and bring in the next generation.

Hot 97's Midday host Big Dennis is also in his 40s.

Which is a shame because no other genre of music treats its elders this way.

when I was predicting that Elvis Duran was not getting fired on this board five years ago, folks were saying that Elvis was too old and needed to be put out to pasture...
5 years later, Elvis is doing Just Fine!...................

That's a misnomer. Age has nothing to do with influence in hip-hop otherwise a number of individuals would have been exited years ago. It's about the ability to attracted a broad audience while maintaining the target demographics at the same time.

ed lovers numbers against Hot 97 in the morning was probably bad, and as for the midday women Deja vu she voice tracks for other CC urban stations so she will continue to get her checks.

Yeah. "Yo! MTV Raps" is so... so... ugh, when did MTV last play music videos? ;)

Hey - you're an "insider" at WRXP. Did you ever run into Ed Lover in the halls?

Ed Lover hadn't worked for Emmis (Hot 97) for several years - late 1990s/early 2000s...well before WRXP came into existence a couple of years ago. I believe Ed started at Clear Channel's WWPR Power 105~1 around 2002 and was in and out; mornings/afternoons/mornings.

However, if the "WRXP Insider" worked at CD101.9 WQCD (in existence from 1988-2008), it's possible they crossed paths.

BTW, Wiki lists Ed's birth date as February 12, 1963, making him 47...if Wiki's to be believed. ;)??? He would have been about 30 years old when he started at Hot 97 around 1993-1994.

Neither station (Cipha Sounds & Rosenberg with K. Foxx on Hot 97; Ed Lover Morning Show with Malikha Mallette on Power 105~1) was in the Top 10 in morning drive (overall age 6+) for NYC October 2010 Arbitron PPM ratings. I'd guess that both stations averaged between a 2.5-3.0 share; perhaps someone will chime in with specific numbers/demos.

Vince Santarelli's article in NY Examiner about the Oct. 2010 NYC ratings: http://www.examiner.com/ny-in-new-york/october-ppm-s

That's a shame Power 105 is releasing him... he's such a funny dude! Has anyone ever seen his "C'mon Son" web series on Youtube? Go look those up, they're hilarious!!

Ed is a Hop Hop legend. His age was never noticeable on air . I can't image his age was why he was let go or why he wasn't killing in the ratings.

AllAccess is reporting that WWPR is now running jockless, because the entire airstaff has been let go.
But the article makes it clear that this does not mean that there will be a format change at the hip-hop station. It states they will be announcing the names of the new personalities within a few days.
