EDM coming to the FM airwaves of SA?

So, 96-9 is dance music on one side of town and oldies on the other? Should be fun when the atmospheric conditions kick in. Gonna scare some old folks looking for Crystal Gayle and finding The Crystal Method...

Nice to see dance back in SA, wish it was a full powered station though. What about KXBJ, that could possible have a effect in the weather conditions also?

Yeah, that's a possibility too. I've heard El Campo in SA before. Not really well, but there. Given the right conditions, then sure, KXBJ could cause grief for Super Hits. Mouse was right, I heard KPPC on my drive in, not KXTJ. Carried it into San Antonio, past SBC Center, then almost to the house, before it became unlistenable. Definitely better on the east and NE sides of town. Still haven't heard KXTJ anywhere near downtown.

LOL, Purple, you're right about dance and oldies mixed. But KXTJ does play classic disco and 70's and 80's classic hits during the day. The dance is just 06:00 PM to 03:00 AM every night. Still I guess some of KPPC's listeners might go to the NW side and listen to KXTJ at night, by accident. And hey, they might just like it.
As for the dance mixed in on KXTJ, I'm liking it so far. Wish I could get it on the north central side of town. KXTJ's got lots of variety now, that's for sure. I even heard this cool Christian dance remix on San Antonio Dance Radio's webstream earlier. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkBWCvcgYZI

EDM is on fulltime now in San Antonio

OK, ready or not, happy Friday!!
KXTJ has flipped.
EDM is on now fulltime! :D :D
It's still affiliated with SADanceRadio.com.
The stream is being fixed soon, for those who aren't on the NW side of town. :)

Yay for local, community-supported radio! They went EDM when no big-time broadcaster has done it in so long. Hats off to everyone at KXTJ!

For those who like disco and classic hits, KONO will do well for you. Or even KPPC, if you're in that area.

One more thing, this is my 1500th post. Congrats to me, running around this radio community and causing trouble since 2011. LOL hope that trouble part isn't true though.
All humor aside, I know so much now about radio, thanks to you guys... Would like to get into it sometime! ;)

It fell through.

From San Antonio Dance Radio's Facebook:
"Hello Everybody,

I need to update you on something that has happened.

I know I told you about 96.9 and initially I was working with them on the agreement that if they play my music/format (the music I provided them) they will promote www.saDanceRadio.com. They are still playing my music , BUT WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. I am NO LONGER involved with them in any way, shape or form.

If you have any specific questions please private message me."

As of now Energy 96.9 is still on the air, but so is http://www.sadanceradio.com.

I have no other details I will share here publically however I do know that KXTJ has dropped all references to SADanceRadio.com. It happened when they started calling it Energy, I have been listening.
It just might be me, but KXTJ seems a little interesting... Their FCC application info says they're to promote public safety, however I never hear anything related to public safety anymore on the station. If I were them I'd make public safety a top priority especially now they're back on the air.

Perhaps a full-powered station can pick up the EDM format and do it right, enabling us to hear it all over town. I know I have big dreams for San Antonio radio, though.

So are you saying it was okay when SADANCERADIO was affiliated with 96.9 but now it's not? Referring to the Public Safety comment you made.

I like SADANCERADIO but some of this seems a bit childish and unprofessional. Not implying the people at 96.9 did no wrong but I don't see them posting any negative or bad mouthing SADANCERADIO. And to say, 96.9 is using SAdanceradio music is not accurate. Both stations have a unique sound and I wish both much success.

That's not what I meant and I was just coming back to try and rephrase/remove that bit. I don't have the full story from both sides, and frankly shouldn't make those comments.
And hey even then my original reason for the post above in this thread was just to update folks here on developments, not to disrespect any station whatsoever.

Here at 281/Brook Hollow it is almost completely obliterated by KPPC. I think I may be able to pick up a weak signal from KXTJ, but then again I was able to get it last week, before the installment of tower section.

Thanks Mouse for the update.

In listening to Energy over the last few days I noticed Top 40 creeping in. WTF!!! Why play music thats found on roughly 5 signals in SA???

Totally agree.

They should do classic dance tracks on the weekend. Like some Todd Terry, Incognito, Jocelyn Brown, Corona, Deep Dish.
Classic 90s stuff is what they should throw in, not Top 40.

As far as KPPC they share the same signal. Can get it from Perrin Beitel and 410 until I hit Fredericksburg then it becomes Energy.

It's rare to have two of my favorite formats battle each other out on the same signal.

I like both stations that happen to be on the same frequency.

I do notice that KPPC comes it a lot weaker.

Yup. It's better than Dance/EDM fighting it out with a Regional Mexican station, Country, or talk radio. Makes coming from 90 West and 410 to Perrin Beitel and 410 quite fun!!! Dance/EDM on my side of town, and Oldies where my folks stay all on the same frequency.

Might not be a bad idea for KXTJ? Maybe throw in some of that disco The Beat does on Sunday nights, is that the same stuff?
Disco's a little different than EDM, so I'm not sure how that all would play out with the listeners. But it's something to think about, at least.

Audio quality wise, I think KXTJ does sound a little better. KPPC has a bit too much AGC on, however the quality of their limiter has improved somewhat recently.
KXTJ sounds fine on the FM side, could use a little more low end, and they should work on the stream quality.

I think both stations use software based processors.
