Elizabeth Vargas out, Charlie Gibson in at ABC World News Tonight

She's voluntarily stepping down to take maternity leave, and will return to ABC as a co-anchor on 20-20 in a few months. Gibson takes over on May 29, but will remain on Good Morning America through June.Link: ABC

I think that it is the best move ABC has ever made. They should have had Charlie Gibson anchor World News Tonight from the get-go. That will give Katie Couric and Brian Williams a lot of competition.

I like this move too.To me Bob Woodruff thought he was Peter JenningsAnd Elizabeth Vargas seemed COLD to me ;DIt was like she had no heart even when they did that piece with her husband this year. Besides ABC cares about one thing, PRIMETIME.Lost, Desperate Housewives, Boston Legal, and Grey's Anatomy.Unlike CBS & NBC which have great and historic news divisions. It's time for FOX to join up and have a news show on that slot too don't youthink?Back to the subject though. I think it's a great move for Charlie Gibson. He is a well respected journalist who's experience may give him an edgeover Brian & Katie :'(

Not mentioned in the two ABC links, but reported elsewhere--along with this anchor change ABC is scrapping the live feedsto the left coast.

With Gibson coming in is there a plan to keep mentioning Bob Woodruff in the show opening? BTW, any word of late on Woodruff's condition?

Hi everyone:Now comes an even bigger question (Perhaps one that's even bigger than who would finally replace Dan Rather on the CBS Evening News, which as we all know Katie Couric did) is who will replace Charlie Gibson on GMA.My bet is on Terry Moran. Nightline can either go with the under-utililized Brian Ross wherever he is or just simply go with the broadcast from Times Square (If not Cynthia McFadden alone from their New York studio) and still hold an audience.Thoughts anyone?Cheers :)
