This just posted at the FCC. EMF is buying KTCY-FM 101.7 Azle, TX for 6 million. EMF will program K-Love or Air1 off satellite. KTCY puts a rim shot signal from the Northwest into Fort Worth, TX.

I suspect they are going to program Air-1, as there would be little point in programming K-Love against KLTY. This seems to be a response to their pledge drive in Houston - an a new strategy to take on established CCM stations in major markets with a younger trending format. But to be successful, they need to ramp up the format to where it is more similar to KSBJ's NGEN, or Z-88's two younger formats. Right now, Air-1 plays way to many of the same clunkers you get on regular CCM. To be successful reaching young people, they need to abandon praise and worship clunkers completely. NOBODY outside the church listens to praise and worship on the radio.

They're programming K-Love here in Nashville against established Fish and Way FM operations -- and christian rock is an open format hole around here after Bott bought out WNAZ-89.1.

The new station will most certainly be Air 1. As previously mentioned, K-LOVE has no chance with KLUV on the air.

They will most certainly move the transmitter closer to the metro area.

Well - KLUV is oldies / classic hits, not Christian, maybe you were thinking of KLTY. But it brings up an interesting point - suppose at some point EMF wanted to bring K-Love into DFW. Would KLUV protest the similarity of the name?

I'm all but certain that CBS would protest--and, off-hand, I think that's what stewie was thinking as well. The same thing almost certainly applies in the L.A. metro (and possibly some adjacent metros)--as Univision still operates KLVE, which likewise brands as "K-Love" (despite the format being Spanish-language).

On a semi-related note, EMF did announce another deal earlier in the week--this time, in Alaska; it might not be as definite, but it looks like that station may also become Air 1. (See http://radiodiscussions.com/smf/index.php?topic=222833.0.)

That's exactly what I meant EJM. Doesn't matter the format, it's all in the name and "brand confusion". EJM is also right about Los Angeles. It used to be an issue with how diaries were filled out. With the introduction of the PPM, the brand (or even call letters) don't really matter anymore. I may be mistaken but I believe K-LOVE has agreements in place with both broadcasters (CBS and Univision). I've known K-LOVE to be a "good broadcaster" as far as rules and regulations go so we just wont see this happen.

You can bet if KLUV or KLVE sign off, they'll swoop in! I'd go as far to say they'd switch Air1 to K-LOVE overnight.

Although I'm glad that the station will probably be Air 1, it looks like it would make sense for K-LOVE to have some alternate name to use for areas where there is a conflict with another station, unless it just doesn't happen much.

There are only a few markets where that happens.

Los Angeles, Dallas and I believe Atlanta (not 100% on that last one).

Another thing I should have mentioned.

Since it's a network simulcast it would require K-LOVE to re-design the way they do things. While I'm sure it's been discussed, it may not be financial viable.

Someone came upon the page and was thinking K-LOVE, not KLUV, and didn't think it was very Christian for K-LOVE to be promoting whiskey. I left a note saying that this was the reason why there will never be a K-LOVE in Dallas as long as KLUV exists,.
