EMF: K-Love and Chrisitian Radio Fundraising (Moved from Buffalo Board)

Christian teachings may talk about love and freedom but in reality we can see how it's all about hate, bigotry and control. Religion is also reasonable for most wars on earth, both now and throughout the history of mankind.
One can be religious about virtually anything, unfortunately. It’s about relationship, not religion. Forcing one’s will on others is wrong. I have seen church leaders and officials do things to my family members that were intolerant, so, consequently, they never darkened another church door. However, they read their bible faithfully (religiously?) and worshipped in their own way. Showing that relationship daily is far more important than any words one may say.

I still have trouble understanding their profit/non profit status...maybe someone smarter than I can explain exactly how it works...
A for-profit company is owned by people or groups of people who hope that the money they invest will either produce a share of profits or increase in value... or both. Profits of the company can be distributed to the owners all or in part, while some may be reinvested to grow or maintain the business.

A non-profit entity is not owned by shareholders; it is operated by management and directors who consider it "owned" by the community it serves. As such, the is no distribution of monies to shareholders and any excess funds are put to use in future activities of the organization.

As there are no distributed profits, there are no income taxes. And because non-profits are considered to be beneficial to a community, they generally pay no sales tax and no property tax.

There's a very big difference between "faith" and "spirituality" vs organized religion. I know many who have their butts in the pew each and every Sunday without fail, yet they're the most gossipy, judgemental and un-kind people who are anything but Christ-like the moment they leave the church building. I also know others who aren't regular church-goers, but they treat others with respect and kindness, perform charitable acts and do what they can to support and assist those around them. One can't help but wonder sometimes who the better person is, given those 2 examples.

I am not going to get into arguments over religion here, but the reason why I donate to local/regional CCM stations only is because the money goes back to a station that serves a local or regional community and wants to spread Jesus' love throughout that local community. Positive Life Radio, SOS (NV, MT, UT) and Family Life Radio, for the most part, have not bought out 20-30 secular, local FMs for their national format. PLR's stations are all non-profit, below 92 mhz (except for Lewiston 94.9, an LPFM that also feeds a full-power 88.1). Family Life's stations all started as religious stations except for 104.1 in Tucson. SOS stations all started as religious stations (this includes KMZL in Missoula). Also, all but two affiliates of Your Network of Praise (MT, ID, etc.) started as religious stations. Only 1320 KNIT in SLC and 88.1 KJKR in ND were originally other formats.

EMF is looking more and more like the TBN or religious iHeart of FM radio, every time they do a lavish fundraiser on the radio or awards ceremony on TV. "GET TO THE PHONES WE NEED 100 PEOPLE AT $50/MONTH and we have a $3,000 Amazon gift card for one of these lucky 100 people -- GO GO GO!!"
Don't forget the "golden K" that the artists get at the lavish awards ceremony.

Likewise, the church I go to has three campuses now - and all three are in the same county, serving a different group of unreached people. But unlike Joel Osteen's church, our capacity isn't 20,000. The main church fits 500 or so, the Selah church fits about 150, and the Lower Valley church fits about 200. Each church has a different 'local feel' to it, but often will use the same sermon as the Yakima campus, maybe with some ad-libbing added. Campuses come together for worship nights, kids camps, and the Christmas musical. We have a diverse congregation, and a diverse base of volunteers that bring everything together - Sunday school, worship team, ushers, cameras/sound/lights, security, etc. As a volunteer on A/V (directing and camera operator), I've made a lot of acquaintances, and have had the honor to direct with talented people young and old. We have a 12-year-old who works cameras and I have seen him grow a lot in the six months he's served. Often he works camera with his older brother. In fact, we are training a new cameraman in his 50s who was homeless for years, and has turned his life around. He's now several months sober, living in transitional housing, saved by the Lord.

For giving time, they pass the buckets for the tithe/offering shortly after worship ends, and pray over it before the sermon. They don't beg people to give and/or shame them for not doing so.

I like my local church. Much like I enjoy my local CCM station.

Churches have power and influence over politicians. They don't practice live and let live. They want to impose their will over everyone.

Rather than Christian churches in general, I think it would be fascinating for you to try to support that argument using, say, AME (African Methodist Episcopal) churches, or Greek Orthodox, or Seventh-Day Adventist, or the United Church of Christ, or the Episcopal Church, or the Anglicans, Presbyterians, Methodists....(it's a long list).

It's naive to think that EMF is all sweetness and light.

And yet you have no evidence that they aren't. Nothing you can point to of EMF advocating imposing will over people, of radicalizing its listeners, of taking ANY political position with its broadcasts.

And certainly nothing that says they're telling their listeners "Jesus is strapped for cash."

Phrases like "it's naive to think..." followed by an unfounded allegation is a technique of the extreme side of the political spectrum you oppose.

There are many kinds of prejudice, tbolt. Yours is on full display in this thread.

What amazes me is the sheer hatred people have of Christians and anything Christian. The comments slung here are bold faced lies. Some seem to hate for the sake of hating what they have no clue about. That's what makes my head spin. If logic is applied, the Bible must be true because it says followers (Christians) will be hated for being followers (Christians).

I recall a conversation with a Muslim client. The subject of 9-11 came up and my Muslim client had the most eye-opening comment. He asked if we had heard of Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas. That was the church that protested at funerals for military that died in action and such. He asked if we considered the church Christian. We all said no. He said as a Muslim he did not consider the people who were behind 9-11 Muslim. He said he felt no need to apologize for them because they were Muslim in name only just as Christians felt Westboro Baptist Church was Christian in name only.

The point is all the extremism is not Christianity except in name.

Somehow EMF gets labeled as gun promoting, anti-abortion, money-conning, etc. because they play a couple of hundred songs and utilize seasoned, mostly former secular radio jocks to present it. If anything, be pleased Christianity promotes love and turning the other cheek. If we didn't sometimes try to do that, some of those spewing such hatred about being Christian might result in it being returned.

There are some bad churches. There are some good churches. I went to one and the preacher said since I had hair to my shoulders I wore the hair of a woman and unless I cut my hair like that of a man I was going to hell. I looked him straight in the eye and said I'd look him up when I got there. My next church said to put my smokes in my shirt pocket and when I wanted a smoke (during services) to step out the front door and grab a smoke. A client that ran a ministry I had on the air put himself through seminary bartending (cussed like a sailor but was a Marine). There are all sorts of Christians and most don't have any attitude that they're better than anybody else. Funny thing, we never talked guns, abortion and other so called hot buttons. And they never tried to 'save' you while you pumped gas for the car. They were fairly quiet, known by their actions versus their words.

The fact is EMF presents music formats some Christians find encouraging and uplifting. This is why some are willing to send, on average, a dollar a day to sustain EMF. Obviously the number is substantial nationwide as EMF is the entity with the cash to buy stations. Since the format is unique, it has value to it's listeners. If you contribute to NPR or if you send money to one of the Children's Hospitals or some entity to save polar bears or dogs and cats or whatever, you realize that entity is worthy of your support just as the EMF listener does. I doubt you give them money when it is needed for food or medicine just like EMF listeners who are not 'one foot in the grave' beyond retirement people but mostly 25 to 49 year olds. To compare them to preachers with pleas for money is another 'haven't a clue' hatred comparison because EMF stations air ZERO preaching programs. They are music formats. Again the clueless hating for the sake of hating.

Lets have everyone's "Summation Remarks" today as this thread has gone well beyond the "remotely related to radio" precept that we have for off-topic subjects.

We are no longer discussing EMF's purchase of stations and/or its internal finances. So end of thread... coming soon.

Many of the posts that are not about EMF and not even remotely related to radio have been moved.
