Emily Marshall, ‘Tonight Show’ Secretary Turned Sitcom Writer, Dies at 79

Unfortunate lead on this Hollywood Reporter story, which describes her first and foremost as a secretary and someone's third wife. That should be in the following paragraphs, not the lead. She was a major writer for tv sitcoms, but this writer describes her as a secretary and a wife. This obit writer wants to talk about the Tonight Show, which they consider to be the most important thing about her. "She was Doc Severinson's wife and a secretary." It's unfortunate they characterized her that way. "She was a secretary." Really? How many male sitcom writers started out as waiters, baristas, and mail room interns?

Totally agree. Sexist, discriminatory perspective about a talented writer who worked her way to a marvelous position in "The Business".
