END OF AN ERA: NEIL SPERRY LEAVING KRLD-AM AFTER 30 YEARS ON THE AIR!

What in the world is KRLD thinking? The one show they have left that people know an love.... And they send him to the curb? There will be a line of stations waiting to pick up his show.... Nice work KRLD... I remember when you were a real station.

Having worked with Neil and KRLD, I wish Neil the best. He is a class act and has a great following. I can't begin to know the "whys", but I do know that when one door closes typically another opens. Neil...you are the greatest and I appreciate your friendship!

Interesting. I started a similar thread last week and it got deleted. Anyway, the lawn and garden chemical manufacturers will have to find 'em another local pusher. Neil was pretty rude with callers too, cutting them off abruptly whan they would try to get in a second question past him. In 1985 Neil advised me to plant a pecan tree in my yard. It is now over 40 ft tall. Sure wish I had NOT put in a pecan tree. Now we have squirrel problems. The squirrels love it though.

Tubetop: As much as I- and probably everyone else in this market- want to blame Spittle...he's been in Houston now for several months and I don't think had anything to do with this decision...

I do like Neil, could always tune in and learn some interesting tidbits of info on how to improve my garden, but I have found the last couple of years that he's pretty set in his ways and not as tolerant as he used to be. I find Megapsycle's comments a little harsh as he seems to have deep seeded issues over his pecan tree, but he is correct in that Neil seems pretty impatient with listeners and their questions...which is hard to understand in that those callers and their questions are exactly what made him who he is.

My 2 cents.

Megapsycle, you should consider yourself lucky to have a pecan tree. I got a Bradford pear on Neil's advice. While a pecan is a quality tree when in the proper setting, Bradford pears are now acknowledged to be trash trees. By the way, Neil no longer recommends them. Things change.

Neil has recommened against Bradford pairs as long as I can remember...been listening since the mid 80's, don't ever remember a recommendation, but i wasn't always paying that close attention. I don't see Neil as overly intolerant unless the caller is prattling on incessantly and not listening requiring Neil to repeat himself. I've never liked the one-call-per-caller idea, but it isn't a HORRIBLE rule, just slightly odd.

The Neil Sperry lovers can rejoice! He's making a live appreance now as I type on Ch 4's Good Day, explaining things to Tim Ryan. And Neil mentioned he will be announcing soon where his next radio gig will be.

If it hasn't been reported previously:

I heard yesterday on WBAP that Neil Sperry will be joining them in July. I believe they said 'at noon Saturday and Sunday".

Good News!!

Hasn't Howard Garrett been on KSKY for several years? WBAP doesn't even do parodies of 'Natural Howard' any more.

WBAP doesn't do ANY of their parodies and skits anymore. And I hate that.

He said the suits told him that they could sell his time for more than he was paying them. He said, "Well how much will the new buyer pay? Perhaps I can pay that." They said they weren't interested in continuing his program at all.

KRLD ain't too smart.

To eat or not to eat pesticides ...

That IS the question.
