New laws that are set to go into effect may spll the end for two of Switzerland's CHR stations. Radio Energy, Zurich's first real CHR (since 2003) has not been granted a license renewal. Fortunately longtime Cable Radio CHR, Radio 105, which is Switzerland's most popular CHR, is set to officially hit the Zurich airwaves in the first quarter of 2009.
Over in the French speaking part of Geneva and Lausanne, One FM has not been granted a license renewal. Other CHRs that can be picked up in that region include Rouge FM, La Radio Plus, and Geneva also has its own Radio Energy station (since 1989). One FM has been a fixture on the scene for over a decade so some in the industry are baffled by One FM's outcome.
Both Energy Zurich and One FM are trying to have listeners sign massive online petitions to save the stations, as well as appealing the decisions to the proper authorities.
Over in Germany, I've noticed a growing trend of CHRs supporting a good amount of Modern/Active Rock hits in rotation. You FM, which can be heard in the Frankfurt region, jumped on this wave earlier in the year. Now it appears most of the CHRs known as Radio Energy (heard in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart, Bremen, Dresden-Leipzig, and Nurneburg) are supporting Modern/Active Rock as well. We'll see how this trend plays out in the ratings, as well as on the national German Pop charts.
Know of any other updates in Germany, Swtizerland, or Austria? Noticed any musical shifts on other radio stations? Feel free to post it here.
