English Trade Group wants to save DAB by sending all FM radios to Africa

On the other hand how about saving analog radio by sending all IBOC radios to Africa or better yet, the moon?

I suggest we send the English Trade Group to Africa, and leave the radios alone...

As Grant Goddard's radio blog notes, Canada no longer sees DAB as an FM replacement, Germany has reaffirmed FM is the primary radio platform, while France has kicked digital radio into, how do you say... les herbes grandes?

They already use DAB and DAB+, now the Swiss are going to start broadcasting HD Radio on FM in September. Isn't this taking neutrality just a little too far?

Interestingly, multi-standard receivers will be marketed in that country. Apparently stations are free to choose a digital standard based upon economics and need instead of being forced to use one system and accept the terms of a monopoly. Obviously, DAB is the Swiss digital standard for AM.

I'm sorry, it seems I'm getting my acronyms mixed up. DAB, of course, is the Eureka-147/L-band flavor of digital radio with DAB+ adding mobile video. DRM and DRM+ are the direct competitors of HDR in the broadcast bands.

At some point, probably all of these acronyms will fade from memory as the technology disappears. Judging from the limited number of countries adopting DAB it may already be happening with this system.
