Entercom’s WDAF-FM/KCSP Spears The Kansas City Chiefs

https://radioinsight.com/headlines/182224/entercoms-wdaf-fm-kcsp-spears-the-kansas-city-chiefs/

WDAF-FM and KCSP to air Chiefs games in 2020.

Entercom Country “106.5 The Wolf” WDAF-FM Liberty/Kansas City MO will become the new flagship for Kansas City Chiefs game broadcasts and sister “610 Sports” KCSP Kansas City the home to all ancillary content starting in February.

The deal marks the end of 30 year run of the Chiefs being on Cumulus Classic Rock “101 The Fox” 101.1 KCFX. Under the new deal WDAF-FM will carry all Chiefs games broadcasts with play-by-play voice Mitch Holthus remaining in place. KCSP will carry weekly press conferences, a Monday night “Chiefs Kingdom Radio Show” hosted by Holthus with interviews with players and coaches, live broadcasts from training camp, and appearances by Chiefs players and staffers on station programming.

Interesting to put play by play football on a country station in a market where there are 3 current country stations: WDAF, KFKF, and KBEQ.

If I were in charge, I probably would’ve put Chiefs football on KMBZ-FM.

CBS, though, wanted to put the Chiefs on KFKF when it owned the current Steel City cluster. Of course, at the time, Sinclair and Susquehanna were never willing to let those rights go, and I seem to remember there was a clause in the contract allowing KCFX exclusive first negotiations with the Chiefs, which pretty much ensured no competitor could get a crack at them.

The Chiefs are playing the Chargers now, it's on 106.5 FM. However the quality has taken a step backwards as they're not in stereo. KCFX had stereo Chiefs audio. Disappointing.
