Entravision Flips KVLY To AC And Shifts KFRQ To Classic Rock

https://radioinsight.com/headlines/185989/kvly-teasing-monday-revamp/

Entravision has completed two additional format shifts in the Rio Grande Valley.

Following the move of Regional Mexican “La Tricolor 99.5” KKPS Brownsville TX to Bilingual Rhythmic “Fuego 99.5“ on March 30, Entravision has flipped CHR “107.9 Mix-FM” KVLY Edinburg to AC “107.9 RGV-FM“, while Active Rock “Q94.5” KFRQ Harlingen moves to Classic Rock.

Multiple format flips are taking place at the Entravision Brownsville cluster.

When I saw the rather surprising move of KKPS to Fuego, you knew that another shoe had to drop. I'd always considered KVLY as a station that really got the RGV -- they reported as a CHR, but featured mix shows, Spanish rhythmic hits here and there, and weren't hesitant to speak the local dialect. But with a true bilingual CHR in the cluster, there was no way these two could sit side-by-side.

The new "107.9 RGV-FM" has a pretty interesting playlist. A quick sample this evening includes newer songs from Taylor Swift and Lewis Capaldi, mixed with Whitney Houston, the Bee Gees, and Richard Marx. A promo pushed Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me". It's almost taking an adult hits angle on adult contemporary, and definitely isn't like anything else on a full market signal. Will be interesting to see how RGV-FM and Fuego play out.

I liked Q94.5's active rock approach... Oh well at least I have Spotify.
