ESPN, ACC Strike Deal on Football, Basketball Rights

From Broadcasting & Cable:

ESPN, ACC Strike Deal on Football, Basketball Rights

ESPN and the Atlantic Coast Conference have struck a 12-year deal on rights to college football and basketball.

Raycom will continue to syndicate ACC games over-the-air and on regional cable through a sublicensing deal.

Yet again another multi-year deal. No mention of FOX Sports Net. ESPN may sublicense some men's baskeball games to the FSNs in the ACC territory and NESN (which airs ACC men's basketball).

This is why the NFL Network recently started carrying CFL Football - there's not that much left to choose from!

Then I'll be a little more blunt: ESPN is slowly but surely securing rights to every single sports package in sight!

What does that have to do with the NFL Network airing the CFL? The NFL Network hasn't expressed much interest in picking up college football games (save for those which they currently air). As for the CFL on the NFL Network: that deal should have been done long ago.

That's because ESPN has locked them all up. Wonder how much our cable bills are going to go up after ESPN raises their per sub amount to pay for all this?

It's more exciting to watch than the world cup.

I agree. The first game of the season which was a Grey Cup rematch between Montreal Alouettes and Saskatchewan Roughriders kept fans on the edges of their seats.

ESPN farms out football basketball and other sports to FSN and CSS as a part of their SEC deal, so I'd imagine they'll do the same for the ACC, its a smart way for ESPN to recoup some of their dollars without spending a penny.

If the deal works like the SEC deal does, then FSN will agree to show X number of women's basketball and Olympic sports games over the year in exchange for rights to a couple of football and men's basketball games and a hefty rights fee.
