ESPN Cleveland Is Talking Sports, Not Politics.

The only talk about the left or right on “850 ESPN Cleveland” will be when hosts are analyzing Browns and Buckeyes defensive schemes. With only days to go before Election Day, Good Karma Brands’ WKNR says it has instituted a “no political talk” directive.

A promo voiced by Tony Rizzo, co-host of “The Really Big Show” (9am-1pm), announces the decision. The audio piece is airing on the station and has been pushed out to social media.

“For 15 years we devoted ourselves to talking about everything: sports, news, entertainment and pop culture including politics,” Rizzo says. “But political discussions have become so toxic, divisive and hateful. As of today, 850 ESPN Cleveland will no longer talk politics.”

Rizzo tells listeners who are looking for political talk and coverage to tune into the competition, naming iHeartMedia’s WTAM (1100), Radio One’s WERE (1400), Ideastream’s WCPN (90.3) and Salem Media Group’s WHK (1420) in the promo.

Its good in theory but what happens in practice if the President decides to do a rant against the NFL, NBA or MLB or NHL for political reasons that gets harder to do in practice. How would you react if the President drags you in a rant.
