ESPN Radio 1410 becomes FOX Sports Radio 1410 on March 5th

I'm guessing they keep the Yankees on the ESPN-branded station and their B-list play-by-play on the ugly stepsister, conceding the rest of the state to WCBS and WICC for Yankees play-by-play. CC is obviously de-emphasizing 1410; why dilute 97.9's ratings with duplicate programming there?

It's a flanker. If CC/Premiere keeps Fox Sports in-house, it can ensure that there's no real sports challenger to 97.9 from outside.

Agreed with "flanker" remark.
CC started a facebook for the new FoxSports1410 and one comment asked why they couldn't have just simulcast WEEI on 1410...I mentioned there already is a WEEI // on 105.5 out of Easthampton. I don't know how the signal reaches but it was coming in fine for me on I-91 hr Hartford a little while back.

(not totally accurate but ("distant" circle lands just N of Hartford): http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WWEI&service=FM&status=L&hours=U

btw back in August I was in the Hartford area and 1410 was to carry a Yankees game but it got rained
out. So 1410 apparently has a board-op sleeping or out to get a sandwich, because 1410 starts to
air WCBS all news. A little while later the switch abruptly gets made back to ESPN :)

Well Fox Sports tends to stick to sports (as opposed to Fox Talk Radio--Brian Kilmeade, John Gibson etc.) though there may be some minor discussion of politics on JT's show (JT, conservative, Tom Looney, liberal). Just remember only conservative talk radio is propaganda; that doesn't happen with liberal talk radio. Also, it's right and just that public radio, which leans left, gets taxpayer money to do so. (Just kidding...meanwhile,
Rush has the #1 national political talk show and gets paid $50 million/yr to upset liberals, who can
turn to NPR and what's left of prog. talk to find solace.)

WWEI-FM Easthampton carries really well through Hartford and into the western suburbs. Actually, since the stereo pilot was turned off, I can get 103.7 WVEI-FM Westerly just fine driving through downtown Hartford and into West Hartford. Hitting the 'seek' button will routinely land on 103.7 in Hartford.

I remember when they were WWRX, getting 103.7 just fine in the Glastonbury/Manchester areas. I used to love that station when it was Classic Rock.

Since Feb. 23 WPOP 1410 has announced their plan to become a FOX sports station. Manos in the morning, Romey amd DPatrick later. Maybe Mad-Dog too? (not sure of his status lately)

ESPN 97.9
FOX 1410
??? WAVZ 1300, no adverts there... presumed ESPN affilation continues. Spotty nite signal Cheshire, Wallingford/Meriden, Southington

Would think it would continue ESPN, as 97.9 gets flaky in New Haven proper.

Mad Dog is still under exclusive contract to Sirius XM, as far as I know, but rumors are that Mel Karmazin wants to cut his salary significantly. I like Russo, and some of the people who've been on his channel have been good listens as well, but Sirius XM offers so many choices for sports talk -- two ESPN talk channels, Fox Sports Radio, and dedicated talk channels for college sports, fantasy sports (!), NASCAR, MLB and the NHL --that it's been hard for Mad Dog Radio to distinguish itself enough to become the clear leader. And since SiriXM is trying to lure advertisers to the channel, that's not a good situation for Russo.

Bower was on WTKK Boston for awhile. They were debating get rid of Jay Severin due to controversial comments, and he and Jay were partnered for awhile (people wondered if
Bower would get the show), or Bower filled in for him when Jay was suspended, etc. Severin got fired (and later turned up at WXKS, in the same
time slot, spurring WTKK to counter-program with pol. talker Michael Graham moving to
that slot). One Facebook group, during the Severin-Bower partnership, was named "Make
WTKK Bower-less", since they didn't like Jay's new sidekick, etc.

>>Meanwhile, WUCS 97.9 has added its own local afternoon talk show, hosted by veteran radio personality Mike Bower. "Bower has a deep passion for sports and his varied experiences with talk radio, music radio and standup comedy make him an ideal on-air host," Wheeler said. "The Bower Show" airs weekdays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
