Evansville Indiana - Great Market For Top 40 Radio

Had a chance to spend a few hours in Evansville. First of all the city's downtown is beautiful, and it was sad to see it so dead :(
On to the radio dial: Hot 96 is a great Rhythmic leaning CHR/Pop station, similar to Z-107.7 St. Louis. 106.1 Kiss FM is also pretty Rhythmic, though didn't sound as tightly executed as Hot. It was great to also pick up WVUB 91.1 out of Vincennes. This is a fun non-commercial CHR/Pop station that has a pretty big playlist of both Currents and 90s Recurrents (I heard No Mercy's "Where Do You Go"!).
Evansville, along with Seattle, is one of the cities where the College stations blend in nicely with the commercial FM band, both in terms of good signals, and well executed formats. WVJC 89.1 The Bash (out of Mt. Carmel) fills the Modern Rock format whole in the market, while 90.7 WPSR was playing 80s hits.
Other stations in the market:
The Jack FM format is on 107.1 FM, and is probably appreciated by locals as the Jack FM's core sound and playlist includes many Midwestern hits. For Rock and Active Rock there's 103 GBF.

All in all the FM dial was pretty good to me. For those of you not in the Evansville area, you can listen online to all 3 of Evansville's Top 40 stations:

WVUB Blazer 91.1, Vincennes/Evansville (Hip Hop during nights)

When I was last in Evansville, downtown had decent action. Of course, it was only one street that had much going on, but it was really hopping. Stop by the Little Cheers Pub or one of its neighbors.

The CHR's do a really good job in Evansville. 18 months ago, Hot 96 didn't lean rhythmic. It did have some rhythmic selections, but it had plenty of rock and pop tracks as well. I'm guess it's made some changes? Kiss was more of the rhythmic station.

Re: CHR!es, a question for you

Did you get to hear WEOA 1400? That's the Urban/Urban AC station in Evansville. And what do you think about the possibility of a Hip Hop/R&B FM in Evansville based upon what you observed while you were there?<P ID="signature">______________

Hey whats up my friend :) I'll be honest with you - I didn't have time to scan the AM dial as I was too busy enjoying the AM side.
I think a Hip Hop format is definitely viable in Evansville, but I think a heavily Hip Hop leaning CHR/Pop station ala Channel 955 Detroit will get more of an audience. The market has an overwhelming caucasian majority - not a lot of blacks when compared to Indianaplis or St. Louis, and even far fewer Hispanics or Asians. Therefore an Afro-American targetted Urban station won't perform as well as a Rhythmic heavy CHR would.

Keep in mind that non commercial CHR 91.1 does go all Hip Hop every night, if I'm not mistaken.
