Eventual format of 101.1 FM: female news/talk/lifestyle?

If they are going after a female audience, they should try and add
Kathy and Judy to the Line-up.

With the way they were shoved out of WGN when Randy was in charge I think the answer to that is a definite 'hell no' on both of their parts. No way they go back to work for the guy who shoved them out without both a large contract and full show control.

And why were they canned? Well, it was a failed attempt to get WGN some demos that weren't in the 55-dead category. Not by getting a soccer mom audience...

Chicago i think is a pretty hard market. What works in Los Angeles or New York can fail miserably here. Examples: Jack FM. Anybody remember how long the morning show "Bob and Tom" lasted on 103.5? Not long.. Us chicagoans are pretty picky and loyal folk. Hell, doesn't jewel osco have like 70 percent of the grocery market here? Unheard of anywhere else in the nation!! (I'm fairly certain that jewel osco is holding supervalu afloat. I've visited other supervalu stores.. Fail!)

Jack FM didn't work in New York, either.

And Bob and Tom may've worked if they had followed a "more music" morning show on Rock 103.5. Instead they had to follow Mancow at his height.

when i moved up to north west indiana in 98. 1st morning i was there i scanned the fm dial found bob and tom [which i used to listen to down here on q95] and ended up leaving the radio on rock 1035 till it died

According to Chicagoland Radio & Media, the station's final format will be a news/talk/lifestyle station targeted toward women, with a staff of (mostly) Chicago radio veterans:

Since when is that site a respectable authority of information? (PROOF: AllAccess can't even get the name of his site correct when quoting him!) He is often proved wrong, so don't bet it will be what you read or everyone on that list has been hired. Also, someone on another Chicago site pointed out, Larz was slamming Randy Michaels while he was at the Tribune. He would never feed Larz or CRM any info. That list of names was leaked by someone on that list. But I will say they would leak him BAD info to throw people off. He is attention hungry to spread anything so he can say he spread it first.

My point is, the format could well be female news/talk like BLINK NYC, mixing in hits from the 80s & 90s. Or female news/talk to go against CBS. Or Chicago is about to get "New Energy 101.1fm"

To all the testosterone here NO KIDDING! You won't like it if the format is female oriented but it WILL bill more than male stations. You hang on boards like these, by now you should know it! ;D

Sounds like trash radio, but that is me, a woman who wouldn't go near that part of the dial. The View stays on because nobody is paying attention at that time of the day. Lifetime, television for neurotic women, is a network that nobody pays attention to, so it is part of the standard cable lineup. It would never fly in a professional office setting, just as any other junk radio does not. Chicago might remain a top 20 market, but that station would not last long.

I was just wondering the same thing. Perhaps the big Randy Michaels curve ball is that there is no curve ball and this may already be the final format, that is news with some lifestyle segments a couple of times an hour, filled out with current based Hot AC music and an occasional full length lifestyle show, like a radio version of "190 North" or "Chicago's Best".

Think of how genius that would be. Michaels manages to knock out an AC competitor in Fresh 105.9, makes them jump to a simulcast of WBBM 780 (which I think they were going to flip to eventually anyway), gives WBBM and WGN some headaches, AND manages to really give the Mix some big headaches as you have two stations with the same playlist located right next to each other! So the combination of a female demographic and a location on the dial right next to a powerhouse Hot AC station, and a location on the other side of them next to the gold leaning AC sister station of said powerhouse Hot AC station, and that could actually lead to some pretty good revenues for Michaels, whether people like this format or not.

Then again this could REALLY be a fix and an out of nowhere format like "Euro Pop" will turn out to be the actual final format! ;D
