EW Scripps Newsy and Black News Channel to have their news operations out of Atlanta

The Black News Channel, which launched last year and is now available in more than 52 million households, is seriously considering moving its headquarters from Tallahassee, Florida, to Atlanta, according to its CEO and president Princell Hair, who joined BNC in July 2020.

In an exclusive interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Tuesday, Hair said the rapidly growing news operation is seeking studio space in Atlanta and hopes to commit to what could end up being the network’s new headquarters within the next 12 months.

E.W. Scripps is moving its Newsy news operation to Atlanta and will make it an over-the-air broadcast channel starting October 1.

The company, which had been based in Columbia, Missouri, expects broadcasts to reach 80 percent of U.S. households via local TV stations it already owns.

Scripps is building out a national news operation for Newsy. There are currently 58 media job openings for Newsy out of Atlanta alone listed on the Indeed website. Newsy plans to have at least a dozen bureaus nationwide and use Scripps’ existing D.C. operations.

Newsy will be based out of the same Buckhead offices where Court TV is located.

Two Rising TV News operations Newsy and Black News Channel which are streaming news operations are going to have their main operations out of Atlanta. Parts of this is that Atlanta has been mentioned in the past as being an alternate filming hub to New York and Los Angeles over studio and office space for broadcasting. Also another competitor Gray Television was in the process of building new offices in the Atlanta area and WGCL-TV/WPCH-TV would move into the new Gray offices if the Meredith deal was approved.
