Crainbebo - check you milage calculations - it does't matter where you are IF Fresno is 790 miles away Los Banos CANNOT be 987 miles. No doubt just a typo. Fresno and Los Banos are only about 70 miles apart (my guess w/o checking )
Good catches! Can you brief us on what you're receiving with these days?

Mofocat, me thinks you misread the 987 miles and Los Banos. As I understand it, KWKW Los Angeles, the new log, is 987 miles away, and it was competing with a station in Los Banos.
KWKW is a regular for me, although right now it's not doing so well. (Maybe it's cause I was checking the frequency while within a couple feet of my cell phone charger.) It can faintly be heard in the daytime outdoors on a good portable radio here.

Yep, that was a misreading. KWKW 1330 is 987 miles and Los Banos is 762 miles, which was competing with KWKW for top dog on 1330 on Wednesday.

So I was likely hearing KTNQ on 1020 (needed from Los Angeles) but no ID and faded. I did hear KCKN a couple times in the past, once with classic country and the other time with the Spanish Christian format.

How will I know if there's aurora conditions here in California?

What you will notice is that stations to your north may be severly diminished or absent alltogether while stations south of you, like KOGO in San Diego or Mexican stations from BCN/BCS will be in stronger than normal. Aurora tends to enhance reception of stations from the south and diminish or wipe out reception of stations to the north. The more intense the aurora, the further south the conditions will be noticed and the more intense the 'southerly' reception. There can even be conditions where there is a line where to the south of it you have reception and to the north of it you don't...as Crain couldn't get KEX 1190 even though that's south of his location

I'm surprised you were able to catch KWKW and KOGO but didn't pick up KFI-640.

KWKW was one of the very first Spanish-language stations in Los Angeles; on the dial at least as far back as the 1960s. I think it used to be on AM 1300, if I recall correctly, as way back in the day, 1330 was the AM side of the classical music station KFAC.

Yes I did get KFI. It's so common that I didn't add it to the list. Only added the real highlights. KFI, KNBR, KGO, KCBS all in as well as XEPE, KFSG, KFBK.

XEPRS was in, aurora or not it comes in every night right under KFNQ. If Seattle was off I probably wouldn't even notice.

I DXed for about an hour and a half both nights there were auroral or semi auroral conditions, and although the reception was a bit weird, I didn't hear any new ones -- even with a loop. Most of Canada was missing, and I may have heard faint traces of XEWA San Luis Potosi 540, but not even sure on that one (no ID). That was cool.

Did notice KHWG Fallon pounding in on 750 with their classic country -- the Portland sports talk station was out to lunch.
