Fall City LPFM Wins case against KWJZ Orca Radio

The Fall City, Washington LPFM (KZFX-LP) recently won big against KWJZ (Orca Radio). Orca complained to the FCC saying the LPFM's signal will interfere with Orca's HD signal on 98.9.

KZFX has an application with the Commission to relocate to 98.5 Mhz (100 watts) from 104.5 Mhz at the same xmit site. In the order to show cause, the Commission stated that the record is clear that there has not been any interference caused so far with LPFM's towards full power analog/digital hybrid signals. Furthermore, the xmit site is in a lightly populated area and so the public interest outweighs any complaints by Orca.

Congratulations to KZFX-LP for sticking up for themselves. Now they just have to get their station on the air.

Here's the report: http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getimportletter_exh.cgi?import_letter_id=24524

I think they'll have a nice signal throughout the Snoqualmie Valley and parts of Issaquah, too!

Yeah, the Ocean does kind of boom into the valley. As far as "interfering" with CIOC, Victoria has no legal right to interference protection in Fall City- THAT'S purely bonus coverage...

Still, itJake, you are correct- sure seems like 101.9 or 102.1 would have been a lot cleaner and might actually be heard more than 200 ft. from the tower. When I was a part of the previous effort in Fall City, we could only broadcast about 32 watts due to our HAAT...will this one be at 100?

I heard through the radio grapevine tonight that the station is now on the air at 98.5 FM.

Hey, stay offa my channel...

I can definitely report that KZFX is on the air in Fall City. I was listening about 20 minutes ago. It stops being overrun by CIOC about 3 miles east of Redmond on the Redmond-Fall City Road.

is this the same station that tried to incarnate themselves as 'super CFL' a few years ago at 104.5.?then got shut down and moved to a 12?or so watt station on snoqualmie ridge?

This LPFM station was indeed the "super cfl" but don't know about 12 watts. And they were not "shut down" as you charge but rather went off temporarily due to the KMCQ, The Dalles, Oregon (Class C) move-in and downgrade to Cougar Mtn.

It's nice to see them back on the air. I'll have to buzz up there to see how the signal is.

I live on the backside of the Sammamish Plateau which is only a few short miles from Fall City and whatever is on at 98.5FM does not come in clearly at all, it sounded like a music of your life American standards type format if that's them it's a VERY small foot print or very rural.
