Family Radio Buys "End of The World" Ads on NYC Transit

I'm not sure if it's been discussed here that Family Radio founder Harold Camping believes Judgement Day will be May 21, 2011. Even though the Bible says no one knows the hour or day, Camping says that refers to the Church Era, which we passed some years ago. It's now possible to figure out the date.

He is absolutely certain about this, claiming his past mis-calculations were similar to a child falling off a bicycle before he can ride it correctly. Family Radio even has bought signs on NYC buses and subways saying "World Destruction Cometh" May 21, 2011. 94.7 FM, FamilyRadio.com (Does God prefer old-fashioned English, like "cometh" instead of "comes"? Camping seems to think God likes 1960s style American Gospel music best because that's the music he programs on his stations.)

When callers question him on his "Open Forum" broadcasts, he never shows any signs of the slightest doubt, and even becomes testy if the caller questions him further. I wonder if Family Radio listeners have actually bought into this prediction. Why keep sending the kids to school? Why get a doctor or dentist's exam if we won't need these bodies six months from now? Why keep working if you've got enough money to last till next Spring? For that matter, if Family Radio has enough cash on hand to keep the stations operating till next May, why do they keep asking for monetary support? Why file FCC license renewal forms for the hundred or so stations they own? There'll be no U.S. government to reclaim the licenses after May 21.

Have they really suspended all plans for the future?

“Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree.”
Martin Luther (1483-1546)

It's nut cases like Camping that make the non-Christian world think Christians are nuts. He predicted the end would be in 1994 and we all know how accurate that was. He'll be just as wrong this time.

The Bible teaches us, in various places, that we are to avoid those who are known for Preaching heresy of any kind.

This includes those so called Prophecy experts who claim to know when the world will end.

Sorry Mr. Camping but only God knows when the end will be.

When He gets ready to end the world, then we'll know that our time is up.

I recently tought with the world's situation today, what if some terrorist picks up on Camping's "prophecies," as false as they might be, and tries to do something that day? It wouldn't be "The End,'" but it's scary to think about what some nut might try to do.

I met this man in a family setting before the crazy prophecies materialized in the 90's and beyond. He seemed, at the time, to be a sincere man, just wanting to spread the Gospel.

In conversing with a pastor friend back in the 90's, who aired his own program at the time on Family Radio, he pleaded with Camping to not issue such proclamations.

Camping is obviously sincere in his conviction, but obviously wrong and won't be swayed in his prediction. Maybe Christ comes back tomorrow, maybe in 10 years, maybe in 100 or 1000 years, but the operative word is maybe, because we don't know, when Christ will return, and the Bible tells us so explicitly.

In the meantime, keep planting seeds.

I honestly think that the world won't end for a long long long time. When it does we'll all be long gone. I myself am Christian (Roman Catholic). I honestly don't believe anyone saying the world will end. I think we should all live like today was our last day. Enjoy life, be stress free, do what we feel is right to make the world a better place. Everyone's got a different view on life. I see the Golden Rule for everyone to follow is treat others the way that you would want to be treated.

I'm afraid of the 2012 date, not because I think the world will end, but people will think that the world will end, and riot and loot. Even though nothing will happen, we will still see a lot of destruscion. I wonder if someone will maybe sue Camping, because they quit their job thinking that the end is near. But I am certainly afraid of the 2012 date, and I'm sure many people will max out credit cards, quit their jobs, and empty there retirement and savings thinking the end is near

I'd definitely be for people who were deceived by Camping suing him once the end doesn't happen. But I think that most will be in two categories: They'll be embarassed to admit they were deceived and won't sue as a result, or they'll still keep listening to Camping and buy into whatever the next date is that he sets for "The End."

Another thought I've had is what about the possibility that some people could commit suicide after Camping's date passes, either because they think they were left behind, or they've blown their savings and have nowhere to go. He should definitely be held responsible if that happens.

What happened to personal responsibility and common sense? If someone is dumb enough to believe the rantings of a snake oil salesman maybe they deserve to exit the gene pool.

In the latest ratings, 94.7 WFME, the Family Radio station in the NYC market, has just under a one-share. (I don't find the other Family Radio stations in Philadelphia, DC, SF or San Diego showing in the ratings but I assume they may not code their signals for Arbitron.)

So if Camping's claims of the world ending in May mixed with the American Gospel music of his 1950s small town youth are attracting nearly 1% of the 20-million radio listeners in NYC, something is going on.

It is PPM too, so it could just be people tuning past, or people who stop to listen to his ranting for a few minutes before changing the station.

During December, Family Radio plays some nice Christmas music that of course is Christian Christmas music rather than secular Santa, Rudolf, the Chipmunks, etc. I listened to WKDN - Camden/Philly for the music. I would tune out anytime Camping came on. Now I'm don't listen at all as the Christmas music is gone. My point is, there may be many others who are blessed by their unusual variety of Christmas music and tune in just for that thus their good 1% PPM ratings.

We, as Christ followers, are to live each day as if Jesus were coming today or tonight. We're not guaranteed tomorrow.

In the old testament, they cut down on repeat false prophecies by stoning a prophet after he was wrong once.

Watch the ending, fade out gag of the 3 Stooges short "Three Arabian Nuts". That's what I wish he'd do once his prediction turns out to be false.

I've deciphered the exact date the world will end:

By re-arranging the letters on a Dog Food container ingredient list and dividing it by the number of chapters in the Book of Paul. Then you multiply that by the number of Jews that were led into the wilderness and translate that result into the Aramaic language, allowing for the conversion to siderial time...you come up with the exact day that "it" will happen.

;D
