favorite radio personality(ies)/dj's in san diego radio

Unfortunately I think many of us take Steve West for granted. He is absolutely a hardcore pro and remains on the air 28 years after he helped launch 91X. Same with Coe Lewis. In an industry that is often a cesspool filled with piranhas, she remains the sweetest, most decent person in this or any business.

Ernie Gladden was okay but he kind of had this unnatural unctous-ness to his voice. Not pukey, but not exactly natural either. I'm surprised no one mentioned one of Ernesto's underground contemporaries who is still very active in radio: Gabriel Wisdom (although someone did mention the News Brothers of which he was one).

In my mind Richbro and Bobby Ocean were to San Diego DJs as Vin Scully and Chick Hearn were to sportscasters. They were Numbers 1 and 2 and then there was a huge gap and then everyone else came in way behind. Or to put it another way, they were to SD what Robert W Morgan and Real Don Steele were to L.A., even though they had all four had completely different styles (especially Ocean).

I think the best play by play baseball announce team ever was Ted Leitner and Jerry Coleman. Having listened to local teams across the country, I have never heard better than Leitner and Coleman.

Bill Gordon KFMB- KSDO
Art Way KOGO
Don Howard KOGO
DJ McKay KSEA
Christopher Cane KGB- KCBQ
Gene West-KGB- KSEA
Lenny Mitchell

Oddly I see no mention of Jeff & Jer now mornings KYXY
Hmm?

They are the Ford Taurus of jocks: long steady run with the public...

Jerry Walker with KCBQ (doing the duck voice of Casey B. Quack) moved on to KNX as Harry Burrell and had a long and distinguished career.
Ralph James of The Q did commercial voice overs for decades, the mellowest pipes.
I think Bob Donnelly from 690 moved on to KCBS where he might have even managed the station.
Also from KCBQ Jack Vincent and Don Howard.
KSON figured in Regis Philbin's early career, his local TV show on KOGO-TV was great, about as entertaining as local TV can be.
San Diego radio talent, an embarrassment of riches!

One of the best DJs and nicest people ever in SD radio was on Boss Radio 136 KGB, KDEO, KSDO, KPOP and thousands of commercials. CHUCK COOPER!! Fine DJ great guy!

I almost forgot the man who is smoother than silk! Infact he makes silk look like sand paper he's so smooth on the air... The great Jack Vincent!!!! Of course from KCBQ
