Favorite Radio Personality In The Pittsburgh Market-Past Or Present

No, I get the point. Some of the people who responded did come up with a short list of the really good ones. Other people who responded only seemed to be reaching for as many names as they could remember.
 
Some of the ones I remember best were the ones who were more obscure, or only on Pittsburgh radio briefly: Ed Sherlock, Bob Curti, John Lindemulder, Sheldon Lewis, George Erdner, Eric Lee, Jo Jo Kincaid, Peter Jackson, Greg Scott, Rex Miller, Marky Billson, Dom Piazza, Jim Ladd, Kevin Maguire, Dana Hodge.

I think Bob Curti still does weekends at WSHH. I recal working with him back in the mid 80's when I did weekends at WPNT(the late George Hart was PD, Also Dave Labrozzi was on the weekend staff!)

Ed Sherlock was part owner and announcer just up until a few years back at WBXQ/WAMQ in Cresson/Altoona market. Now general manager at WCRO Johnstown.

Dave Labrozzi was working in the Altoona market for many years as announcer and most recently operations mgr for stations I believe in the Lancaster, PA market.

I always try to keep everyone updated on the whereabouts on any announcers I know personally.
 
After having been PD of 3WS and RVP/programming for CC's Pittsburgh cluster, Labrozzi is now the Regional VP of Programming for CBS in Baltimore (he never worked in Lancaster).

Thanks for the update! Labrozzi (aka Dave Anthony) use to rent an apartment from my mom years back when he was on air announcer for WFBG in Altoona. One of her friends had told her he was at WARM 103 or THE ROSE in Lancaster County, but that was a while ago.

Mavis Logan...now you're REALLY taking me back. I remember when she did the news briefs on WPGH-TV 53 back in the late 70's. Anyone remember those? They used the intro to "Teenage Wasteland" as the newscast theme.

From Altoona he went to WWVA in Wheeling, a very brief time as the PD of the ill-fated Energy 105 in Pittsburgh, then on to San Antonio, Dallas, Nashville, then back to Pittsburgh and Baltimore.
 
Man I sure stired something up. FYI Dave and I first worked together @ WEIR circa '84 or '85. He was the PD and did mid days, myself, morning drive and sales all day.

Jack Bogut, Chris Moore, Doug Hoerth and there was this one disc jockey I listened as a kid nicknamed 'Bender' on b94 and he got me interested in radio so I will have to throw him in there.
 
I cannot believe that no one has mentioned Porky Chedwick. You all must be young folks :). He is literally the first radio voice I remember hearing, on 860 along with Abbie Neal (who played Country). While his delivery was unusual, even for the fifties, his enthusiasm inspired many of us to be lifelong radio and music fans.
I also have to second the mentions of KQV's Fun Lovin Five under John Rook, especially Chuck Brinkman and Dex Allen. That's where I learned Top 40 formatics.
Favorite Pittsburgh personalities that I've worked with include Jack Wheeler (he brought a lot of attention to mornings at WEEP, a station with a variable sign on); Bogut, Pallan, Levine and Horne at KDKA (all at the top of their game when we worked together in the early 70s'); Jessie and Denise Oliver from WDVE (both of whom I would later hire in NYC).

Update on Dave from above. He came to Erie from Altoona, before going to WEIR in the 80's. I worked with him at WRIE in Erie.
 
There weren't any disc jockeys I'd call "favorite personalities". I'd listen to any DJ if he was playing music I liked, and wouldn't listen to any disc jockey I did like if he was playing music I didn't like. The exception was Rege Cordic, who I listened to faithfully even though the music he played was usually awful. I liked the music Ed Sherlock played on KQV-FM before they started running the ABC "Brother John" package with John Rygren as the DJ 24/7. I surprise myself by liking that stuff, since it was "Lite Rock" before that genre was invented as a separate programming format, and today I think "lite rock" is about as appealing as "lite beer".

But I did really enjoy listening to Al Julius get worked up on KQV on Sunday nights. It was an affectation, but I liked his schticky show ending of "This (long, looonnng pause) is Al Julius". And I really enjoyed Ed and Wendy King on Party Line. They came across on the air as nice people.

I also like Quinn and Rose, mostly because of Quinn's self-deprecating humor schtick and the interplay between Quinn and Rose.
