Favorite Radio Personality In The Pittsburgh Market-Past Or Present

These were some blasts from the past I'm glad you mantioned:
"...Maxwell...Hershel in his 'YDD days.".
 
Notice how many ex-TAE jocks are turning up in this discussion? Some of them 3 or 4 times. From top to bottom that station back in the day had the strongest lineup ever seen in this town. Nobody out there today even comes close.

There's alot to be said for Cordic & Co., Art Pallan, Bob Tracey, Clark Race, Party Line, and Big Jim Williams. Add in Terry McGovern and you sure have a hell of a line-up.

Of course, there was also quite a bit to be said for the Fun Lovin' Five.

I can't say that WTAE had the strongest line-up ever. ONE of the strongest.

And NOTHING today comes even close to anything resembling being the vicinity of being close.
 
I have to agree with Freddy, TAE lead by Captain Show 'Biz had one heck of a station. I'm suprised no one mentioned "The Wilde Child" Dick Kemp or even Jeff Christy!
 
I listed to Wilde Child for years and never understood a word he said.

And I have absolutely no recollection of Mr. Limbaugh as a jock.... would love to hear an aircheck....
 
The best of the Real Radio airchecks for Christie/Limbaugh concern him saying he was going to do a remote with the Pittsburgh Condors.

I have heard the bits- lots of the catch phrases he uses today were incorporated on WIXZ and KQV.

Still, some of the bits- I don't know. How many sunlamps to grow palm trees? Never did it for me.

The bit on what a woman needs to do to get a job in radio was pretty good, however.

other than Pallan, those guys were sadly all a bit before my time
 
Interesting that there was no mention of "Uncle Dougie" even though he's been in the market for about 25 years.

That's probably why no one has mentioned him. Joking aside, I think he is talented, I mean, he has been on the air for 25 years in Pittsburgh, but the reason why he is not 'MY" favorite personality because I have met him on several occasions and he doesn't seem to be personable off the air and is kind of an old grump.

I would love to know how his show does in ratings as compared to other 1360 talkers and people who are on the air the same time as him.

The WTAE guys were good, but that station was heavily formatted by Atkins. He had two-page memos on the proper way to execute a time check. The exception was morning drive, where O'Brien and Garry got a chance to stretch out.

It was a far different kind of radio than KDKA was doing in the '60s. Westinghouse gave their talent a chance to create and it was also the last major station where the talent had significant input into the music featured on their shows.
