Favorite Songs You Never Hear On Radio Anymore

Every song mentioned so far except the ABBA is played on my station. And we encourage listeners to request songs, the deeper the better. We even let listeners do they're own list of songs and DJ once a weekon sunday nights on our show Audience of one(6p sunday night)With so many people trying to shrink classic rock playlists to a classic hits smell,er styleand I do admit we have to fight hard to protect ours sometimes too,It's greatto work at one station who believes the listeners still have a say.And we are now streaming on line again , at wroq.comso listen and compare.Brian BladesWROQ rock 101Greenville, scOh I'd like to hear more Bowie,Elvis Costello, and... well I could go on for days!

Someone mentioned Triumph. We play all of those listed, but is anyone playing their forgotten nugget from 1986, Somebody's Out There?

Somehow I don't think you'll hear "Don't Pay the Ferryman" on an album-oriented rock station.Different songs test well in different areas of the country. In Kansas City, KYYS still likes to play "Green Grass and High Tides" by the Outlaws, which I don't think I've heard in any other market. KYYS also plays The Rainmakers, Missouri, and Shooting Star (local bands from the past). In Minneapolis, KQRS played "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot and the studio version of "Life During Wartime" by the Talking Heads.I'll throw a few out there that I don't hear anymore...-Anything by the Talking Heads beyond "Once in a Lifetime", "Take Me to the River", "And She Was", and "Burning Down the House".-John Hiatt-"Something Wild" and "You May Already Be A Winner"-Crowded House-"World Where You Live"-Anything by Pink Floyd before "Dark Side of the Moon"-Anything by the Moody Blues that doesn't begin with "Nights in..." and end in "White Satin".-Ozzy Osbourne-"Mr. Crowley"-Anything by Queensryche from the Operation: Mindcrime album-Queen-"Stone Cold Crazy"-Anything by Elvis Costello...period-Ian Dury-"Reasons to be Cheerful pt. 3" (okay, I don't really expect to hear this on a rock station).

David Essex - Rock On ( I hear it every now and then, but not often)
The Guess Who - Hand Me Down World (it's been years since I've heard this song on the radio (not counting on XM)

tony carey--fine fine day

tpoh--im an adult now

Well shucks... here I was gettin' all pompous because Rock103 in Memphis plays everything mentioned on a regular basis - that is until I got to the above mentioned lists...

Tarny Spencer Group/No Time To Lose.
Fleetwood Mac / Bare Trees
Led Zep/Down By The Sea Side
Police/Walkin On The Moon
Jackson Browne/That Girl Could Sing
Guess Who /Star Baby
The Who /Bell Boy

Mostly long ones:
1. Funeral for a Friend-Elton John
2. The End-The Doors
3. Court of the Crimson King- King Crimson
4. Aqualung-Jethro Tull
5. Hold your head Up-Argent

There are literally thousands of songs that could be played on a classic rock/rock station. The playlist seems quite limited, at least, in the Boston area.

I'm all for research & playing what tests well. I can't speak for other parts of the country.
But in my area. Here is what I would like to hear. Some stations here do open up the playlist
on weekends.

Led Zeppelin, In The Evening
Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Karn Evil #9
Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Lucky Man
Deep Purple, Knocking At Your Back Door
The Outlaws, Green Grass & High Tides
Jefferson Starship, Jane
Rolling Stones, Happy
Genesis, Abacab
Peter Gabriel, Shock The Monkey
Foreigner, Head Games & Hot Blooded
Bad Company, Burnin Sky
Spirit, I Got A Line On You
The Who, Long Live Rock
Jethro Tull, Locomotive Breath, Teacher, Aqualung, Cross Eyed Mary
The Doors, Gloria

I hope I'm still on track but this topic shows how narrow the palylists at many stations are. On the cable classic rock music channel (Music Choice) here was a representative sample from 2:30-3:20 pm yesterday:
1. Hot legs (Stewart-1977)
2. Dirty Deeds DDC (AC/DC 1981)
3. Addicted to Love (Robert Palmer-1986)
4. Rebel/Rebel (David Bowie-1974)
5. I'm Free (Who 1969)
6. Let it Be (Fab Four 1970)
7. Suttender (ELO)
8. Funeral For A Friend (John 1973) That song rocks-by contrast about 15 min later I heard Levon for the umpthennth time on WZLX. I can't remember when I last heard FFAF.
9. Mighty Mountain Top (Led Zep-1974)
10. Go Your own Way (Fleetwood Mac-1977)-seems they play that song a LOT on the radio
11. Wild Eyed Southern Boys (38 special)
Nuff said? Most of these songs you don't hear that often except for Let it Be and Go Your own Way- at least around here in the Boston area
