Favorite Songs You Never Hear On Radio Anymore

Speaking of REO Speedwagon, you never hear the original studio version of "Riding The Storm Out", with a different lead vocalist other than Kevin Cronin.

The Kings - "This Beat Goes On/Switchin' to Glide"
Donnie Iris - "Love is Like a Rock" and "Ah Leah!"
John Waite - "Change"
Yes - "Changes"
Saga - "On the Loose"
Aerosmith - "Seasons of Whither"
Ram Jam - "Black Betty"

Lets face it....there's more that they don't play on radio today....the "classic rock" path is so worn, it resembles the Grand Canyon.
I can't fathom the person who actually likes listening to classic rock radio; does anyone still get any enjoyment out of listening to: Hotel California, Money, Satisfaction, Behind Blue Eyes, Tush, More Than a Feeling, Jump, etc...

Money never gets old but the rest do

Anything by Quicksilver Messenger Service, It's A Beautiful Day, The Alan Parsons Project, The Tubes (except "She's A Beauty", The Band (except "The Wait" & "Cripple Creek"), and most Moody Blues songs. I agree that Music Choice has a good selection, and there are eclectic stations on the Internet that I can hear a variety of never heard classics on a regular basis.

I live on the east Coast and have probably heard Quicksilver Mennenger Service tracks maybe 3X in the last 15 years. Could be that they were much more popular on the West Coast. Always enjoyed their song "What about me."

Thunder Island - Jay Ferguson

I heard this two years ago, but on "The 70's" with Steve Goddard (nationally syndicated).

Gold - John Stewart w/ Stevie Nicks & Lindsay Buckingham

This was on WLQT "Lite" 99.9 in Dayton at least twice within the last two years. Of course it could have been during one of their "Super Seventies Weekends."

i just read through this last page on this thread. every song mentioned is played on xm radio. ;D

She Belongs To Me- The Nice
Sea Of Joy/Had To Cry Today-Blind Faith
Hot Smoke and Sasafrass- Bubblepuppy
Coliseum Rock- Starz
Rock and Roll Machines- Godz
Any Fleetwood Mac before those $%^& chicks joined the band
The City- Mark Almond
In Memory of Elizabeth Reed- Allman Bros.
Anything from Stand Up- Jethro Tull
Goin Down To Mexico-ZZ Top
California-John Mayall
Like You Do- REO Speedwagon
Them Changes-Buddy Miles
and the list goes on and on and on...incredible String Band, Grateful Dead, Jeff Beck, Rush, Mahogany Rush, Tom Rush. Beatles, Crickets, Animals, Monkees (Michael nesmith) and on and on and on....

(Rover- you know I dig you, but it amazes me how completely different our musical tastes are. You did the album rock thing in the late '70s, I did it in the early '70's. I was done by the time you began, so the music you heard was very different from what I heard. I miss your weekend show.)

"Fire" by the Crazy World of Arthur Brown was a huge hit in 1968. "Na Na Hey Hey" by Steam in 1969. Both one hit wonders. One song (guess) you near hear (guess) one you do ad nauseum. That's why I'm looking at satelite radio for the first time very closely. Too many assumptions made about too many folks' musical tastes. If radio doesn't mix it up and start getting creative, it will die a death (and never return) like the dinosaurs.

I like Music Choice too, it comes with my digital cable, but there is a much wider selection of internet stations to choose from and is great for anyone with a reliable broadband connection. I have "Follow Your Daughter Home" by the Guess Who" now playing with unbeatable fidelity through my surround sound system from one of those stations. No need to pay for satellite radio at home.

What’s going to happen to these tired classic rock stations playin’ the same ol same ol tired trax? They and much of radio have survived to a degree on scarcity of choice, but that’s clearly changing with satellite & cable radio and the internet.

Are they going to respond the new competition by branching out and improving, or are they going to stay in their safe consultant-designed boxes and just cater to the folks who are either passive occasional listeners, or those who can’t afford the new media choices?

Asking another way, will much of radio stay dumbed-down to a low common denominator, as long as it can attract gullible-to-the-advertising listeners?

I write this from an area of the south where it's pretty bad on-the-dial so I may be a bit slanted :-\

its like that everywhere. btw the songs listed on this page of this thread all play on xm 40 deep tracks.

Oh I agree smashedcd! I listen to Deep Tracks nearly everyday, and every day I hear a great tune I haven't heard in many many years. It's like being cured of amnesia.

Most good radio has died and gone up to the heavens.

Nicole - Point Blank
Hold Your Head Up - or anything Head East
anything Moody Blues, anything Pat Benatar

TK 99 plays none of that. they suck.
