KRXL in Kirksville, MO is a classic rocker that had a broad playlist when I lived in the area in the early and mid 90's. Days were fairly familiar stuff (but broader than most) and at night and on the weekend they sprinkled in some really deep cuts, including some of the regional hits from St. Louis, Chicago, and KC.
I worked there in 94 (and listened from 88-97) and remember playing Head East, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Missouri, Brewer and Shipley, and a numebr of other songs and artists listed. Anyone remember Alliota, Jeremiah, and Hayes' Lakeshore Drive? I remember a bumper sticker hanging up on the wall of the control room for WMRY St. Louis.
Even with the broad playlist, they were quite successful. Ratings were decent and sales were quite good. Besides serving a region with few classic rock and oldies stations at the time, they had solid news and weather coverage and were very visible in the communities they served. I have only heard them a couple of times since I moved away, so I don't know what they are like now.
