Favorite Songs You Never Hear On Radio Anymore

LeRoux's "New Orleans Ladies" I hear on the radio all the time, especially on some of these "love-songs-at-night" type stations (excluding the "Delilah" stations). Heard the Zebra and Focus songs at work a little while back via the Wal-Mart radio network. The Tony Carey song ("Fine Fine Day ") was indeed one of my favorites as well in that post "Saturday Night Fever"/pre-MTV period. Usually now, I go to XM or Music Choice on my cable system for some of the hard to hear songs.

KRXL in Kirksville, MO is a classic rocker that had a broad playlist when I lived in the area in the early and mid 90's. Days were fairly familiar stuff (but broader than most) and at night and on the weekend they sprinkled in some really deep cuts, including some of the regional hits from St. Louis, Chicago, and KC.

I worked there in 94 (and listened from 88-97) and remember playing Head East, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Missouri, Brewer and Shipley, and a numebr of other songs and artists listed. Anyone remember Alliota, Jeremiah, and Hayes' Lakeshore Drive? I remember a bumper sticker hanging up on the wall of the control room for WMRY St. Louis.

Even with the broad playlist, they were quite successful. Ratings were decent and sales were quite good. Besides serving a region with few classic rock and oldies stations at the time, they had solid news and weather coverage and were very visible in the communities they served. I have only heard them a couple of times since I moved away, so I don't know what they are like now.

"Cinderella" was by... are ya ready? FIREFALL!!

The 'good times, great oldies' stations of today probably don't touch this soft rock nugget because of the oddly negative lyrics. Though it is nothing but pure cheese - I've always been particularly interested in this song and mystified that it was chosen as a single given the subject matter; girlfriend is pregnant, singer callously kicks her to the curb with scorne:

Then one mornin' she came to me
With a tear in her eye
And a sigh on her breath
And Lord she said
"Hon, I'm heavy with child"

And I said "GOD DAMN GIRL, can't you see
That I'm breakin' my back
Just tryin' to keep my head above water
And it's turnin' me wild"

Cinderella can't you see
Don't want your company
You better leave this mornin' leave today
Take your love and your child away

#34 Billboard pop singles chart 1977

Oh Lord!! "They don't write 'em like that any more" (thank you Greg Khin).

WHY would you play a "low charted song" with those horrible lyrics? "Pure cheese, whatever that means. The cheeses has mold - throw it out.
