Favorite Songs You Never Hear On Radio Anymore

Let the trailer park crowd have their innane rock.

I resemble that statement ;D no actually radio is dead except for a few small town stations. The big corporate stations will not change. If you want good local radio I suggest you move to a small towwn somewhere. otherwise you must get XM or Sirius. last night I discovered rhaspody...yet another choice to stay away from FM radio.

am
"Pinball Wizard" Elton John's 1975 version from the film "Tommy: The Rock Opera" (much better than the original The Who version--played more 'out of respect' than EJ's).

"Take The Money And Run" used to LOVE hearing this one on New Orlean's WTIX-AM back in the day.

"Still The One" Orleans--good song from '76.

" I Just Wanna Stop" Gino Vanelli (this one used to get the babes back in the 70s).

"She's Gone" Hall & Oates No longer gets much airplay in Louisiana (given we have Bayou now: WRNO is dead).

I here all these songs on commercial radio today.

Just about any version of "Gloria" but especially the Patti Smith Group cover. I'd roll that sucker, she'd growl out the line "Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine" and the phones would light up. lol!

The Who's "Doctor Jimmy"
Golden Earrings "Candy's Gone Bad"
13th Floor Elevators "You're Gonna Miss Me"
Nick Lowe had minor hit with "Switchboard Susan" that is virtually forgotten.
The Allman Brothers "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed"

There's a bunch more. AOR was such a regional format in the 70's that things got big airplay in one market and might not get heard in another. The band 20/20 had a great song called "Yellow Pills" that rarely got played outside of SoCal. Kraftwerk's "Autobahn" got played to death in the Northeast and Midwest, but got minimum play outside of there.

I just thought of a few more...I didn't have time to go thru all the posts....sorry if there's repitition.
Something In the Air: Thunderclap Newman
Nick Lowe: They Call It Rock
Tattoo Love Boys: The Pretenders
Stone Cold Crazy: Queen
Baby Blue: Badfinger
Sunday Papers, One More Time: Joe Jackson
Snorting Whiskey: Pat Travers
The Tubes: What Do You Want From Life
Any Frank Zappa....

Chicago's SOUTH CALIFORNIA PURPLES.

But then, what DJ or PD has the freedom in the United States of America to play "that" king of song ? ? ?
WXRT or WRLT played that two weeks ago. I heard it on line. I would play it at home but I don't have a turntable anymore.

How about these (if one of these have been mentioned, oops!):

gods child "everybodys 1"
Toy Matinee "Last Plane Out"
Genesis "Illegal Alien"
Chilliwack "I Believe"

So much of the music described (i.e., The Sweet's "Fox On The Run," "Black Betty," "5-7-0-5," the Babys' hits) can be heard on the Lost 45s on Oldies-formatted WODS 103.3 here in Boston. Host/creator Barry Scott (at www.lost45s.com) sometimes leaves a post on one of the Radio-Info boards (usually Boston). As for Abba, they don't belong on the rock boards anyway!

Just heard a song by The Pastel Six, "Cinnamon Cinder." Great song. I remember it as kid (young kid). You NEVER hear it on the radio. (I heard it on Music Choice.)
That's why traditional radio is dying. No (insert adverb of choice) creativity.
You could probably list 1K or more of songs like this. Look how many there are just on this board alone.

Foreigner: Say You Will, That Was Yesterday and Break it Up
Journey: Still They Ride, Girl Can't Help It, I'll be Alright Without You, Suzanne and Send Her My Love
Styx: Why Me and Boat on the River
ZZ Top: TV Dinners
NRBQ: Me and the Boys
Glenn Frey: Partytown
any Black Sabbath song other than Sweet Leaf, Iron Man, Paranoid and War Pigs
Rainbow: Long Live Rock 'n Roll, All Night Long and I Surrender
5 Man Electrical Band: Absolutely Right
Nazareth: Holiday and Love Leads to Madness
Billy Joel: This is the Time and Say Goodbye to Hollywood
Queen: Body Language
Kix: Don't Close Your Eyes
Ali Thomson: Take a Little Rhythm
John O'Banion: Love You Like I've Never Loved Anymore
Bob Welch: Precious Love and Hot Love Cold World
Cars: Touch and Go
Doucette: Mama Let Him Play
Doobie Brothers: I Cheat the Hangman
Ted Nugent: Bound and Gagged
Genesis: Never a Time, I Can't Dance, Jesus He Knows Me and Illegal Alien

Fancy: Wild Thing
Steve Miller Band: Wide River
ELO: Hold on Tight and Rock 'n Roll is King

John Lennon: Nobody Told Me
Babys: Back on My Feet Again
The Police: Bring on the Night

Long, Long... ago, FM ROCK radio ceased to be something GOOD for their Listeners (when it comes to MUSIC, that IS), and something that is primarily GOOD for their ADVERTISERS.

Maybe, at one time, not so many years ago, it had morphed into something was good for BOTH the Advertisers AND the Music Listeners.

But, .... even that is Gone...

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE ADVERTISERS.

Now what's wrong Wrong with that ? ? ?

NOTHING is the ONLY thing you are concerned with is THE BOTTOM LINE.

But there's a WHOLE LOTTA thing wrong with that, if you appreciate the VAST amount Great (NOT ECLECTIC - YOU PINHEADS....) Rock Music out there.

But, I guess that... pinheads are programming for pinheads, are pinhead listeners, are there to give them numbers..... But, you know, and I know, that that situation, is NOT satisying, IT'S Annoying.

Pure Capitalism SUCKS, and is EVIL!

I wish our Government and FCC would better protect us from the sway of Corporate Conglomerates.... But they make such good bed partners, now don't they !!! ???

I'm sure you guys remember "The Friends Of Mr. Cairo"...

All over rock radio late nights circa fall, 1981...

Hey Rover, DEVO!!!!

Hell yea!!!!!..Nowwadays, everybody just thinks that Devo are some kind of a one-hit wonder that did "WhipIt"...

I remember hearing a hell of a lot of tracks off the "New Traditionalists" record throughout 81-82 on rock radio..

Another tune that got a lot of airplay during that time, "Private Eyes" from Hall & Oates...on ROCK RADIO!!!

Also, ANY Molly Hatchet tune was acceptable...

What's wrong is that what you've said is impossible. Think about it. Advertisers only rent a radio station's listeners. If the station isn't good for the listeners, they won't listen and then the station has no one to rent to the advertisers?

How could radio without listeners be good for advertisers, unless the folks who run the radio ratings are cooking the numbers? Come to think of it, does anyone actually know anyone who ever got an Arbitron radio diary to fill out?

NO.... HOW COULD RADIO with Listeners that accept canned reapeated junk for music... BE GOOD FOR ME ? ? ?
