FCC Application for a new AM Band Satellite IP Facebook Portal station

Someone applied to the FCC for a Satellite Global Station on the AM Band to operate through Facebook Portal.

The proposed construction permit is for 1400 kHz (non directional), licensed to Brooklyn, Nevada, which is an abandoned mining town outside of Reno.

The daytime antenna will be located in Burkina Faso, Africa, and nighttime antenna location will be located in the North Atlantic Ocean near Newfoundland, Canada. Both appear to be horizontally polarized.

Here is a link to the application: Application Search Results

Weird application. I'm guessing they're proposing to use Facebook Live as essentially the STL to feed this thing? The backup being Intelsat? (Sat Phone) Talk about an expensive backup feed! The whole thing reads Kuku.

Not sure what "broadbanding of the frequency" means. All AM stations need to abide by the same bandwidth limitations.

From the application filed with the Commission:

"Description: WJJL AM IR JN&MJOHN PHILLIPS COMMUNICATIONS
WOULD LIKE A FCC RULING ON A SATELLITE GLOBAL RADIO STATION THAT IS IN PART ON FACEBOOK THROUGH FACEBOOK PORTAL. THIS WOULD ENABLE AN EXTREMELY VAST OFFERING OF TRAVEL TOURISM AND IN THE PANDEMIC ERA TO BE SAFE IN TRANSMISSION OF INFORMATION AND SERVICES WIOTH LIVE FEED AS WITH THE ORIGINAL WJJL RADIO BUT ONLY ON A BROADER MESSURE. BEFORE ACTUAL BROADBANDING OF THE FREQUENCY IT WOULD BE A PROTYPE ON FACEBOOK PORTAL. IT WOULD ALSO COMPLY WITH DIFFERENT SPECIFICATIONS OF VARIOUS COUNTRIES. WOULD BE WITH COMSOL TRANSMISSIONS UNLESS I CAN KEEP FACEBOOK AS MY INTERNET PORTAL WITH TRADITIONAL AND LIVE INTERNET TALK, SHARING CULTURES AND TOURISM WOULD BE USING INMARSET AS MY SATELLITE PROVIDER"

There are so many questions here, but mainly, what does an SGS with Facebook Portal do, and is this configuration even close to legal?

Perhaps @Kelly A or @DavidEduardo can make some sense out of this.

Maybe this will "save" AM?Dave Chapelle.PNG

I'm reading this as some sort of vacationing/travelers radio channel. Another company did something similar in Florida years ago with a cable TV channel (Plum TV). Using Facebook as a way to feed the transmission site (in theory) gives them a digital and Antique Modulation presence. The whole thing about broad-banding the frequency though, is a head scratch-er.

I don't think the FCC has a window for new AM Band Satellite IP Facebook Portal Station applications open at the time. Perhaps after the NCE-FM and LPFM windows close.

This applicant used to spam the Buffalo board here about 15-20 years ago and made multiple FCC filings trying to steal 1440 WJJL Niagara Falls from the owner who she claimed she was his widow, when in reality she worked there for two months.

Scott wrote this detailed summary on her in 2011: NERW 12/19/2011: CBS Buys Second NYC TV Signal

By utilizing Facebook Portal, I'm pretty sure she simply means streaming online.

And there is currently no window by the FCC for any new AM properties. So even if this was a legitimate filing it would immediately be dismissed.

Thanks for the backgrounder. That is terrifying.

My conclusion is that someone escaped from the asylum and then used a computer program to assemble various tech phrases into a statement before the FCC.

At best, the applicant might get a guest parody appearance on South Park.

This explains so much...

The proposed day coordinates are in Burkina Faso.
The proposed coordinates for the night site are on the Russian-Kazak border in the steppes above the Caspian sea.

All evidence considered, this should not be regarded as a serious application.

Lmao and she didn’t even change the applicant name for this one.

she meant Brooklyn, NY not Nevada.. and that was a typo. If you scroll down to exhibit 7.. she says "BYC" area, i think she means NYC because the address on the application comes back to "Van Siclen Women's Shelter" in Brooklyn, NY.

Back in 2005, I worked for a full power AM that ran a travelers information format... boring... traffic/weather, touristy ads interspersed with cnn headline news

Oh good lord, you can’t have a typo that obvious and expect it to actually go though.
