FCC grants Construction Permit to Kids First. WITT 91.9 Zionsville !!!

My satirical ID was just that....SATIRICAL. Humorous. Silly. Having fun.

This new station, if it does nothing else, will try to have fun. Yes, responsible broadcasting will
be present 24/7, but that does not mean subtlety in humor cannot also be present.
I remember years ago when am1500 came on here in Indy as WNDY....they had so much
fun with that station. Unfortunately they were apparently almost giving away spot ads and a
commercial venture like that could not last very long doing that...it didn't...they sold within
a year to the brothers who turned it into WBRI, Bible radio.

Lets hope Hoosier humorist Herb Shriner was correct. He always told the story that
his parents lived in Ohio, then moved to Indiana when they found out about it !!!

Lets hope they moved here to let Herb share his humor with all us Hoosiers. WITT will try
to do the same.

Fortunately your listeners will know you by what you do on the radio, and not from our critique here, but it is good to know there is a commitment to Boone County and you're not just trying to rimshot the city.

PS: Keep "Indianamediaguy" away from the keyboard. He's scary. :)

Lurker: i hesitate to respond to you because we will never agree. Hatred? Scary? That's just way way out there. My commentary on talk radio was just a rebuttal to your otherwise unchallenged bs, not a programming plan for WITT.

Jim says it well. We'll have fun. We'll hopefully be fun to listen to. We hope to offer something that as many listeners as possible, in Boone County as well as otherwise, will enjoy.

Actually I agree that local stations should serve local communities. I also liked Section 315 and the Fairness Doctrine. All three of those things are way gone, though, thanks to Congress and the FCC.

But if stations were forced to focus on their city of license, WZPL would be serving Greenfield, WKLU would be Brownsburg focused, Hank 97.1 would never have left Shelbyville, and Jeff Smulyan probably wouldn't have amassed his radio empire. As they say, the train's left the station on that subject, many moons ago. So while we'll try to offer up something useful for Boone County, we'd be foolish to ignore Marion County.

Wouldn't we?

Is it true? Did Bruce Quinn help this bunch of lefties get a license too? Rumor is that he might be a commie. More radio and power to the people!

Amazing the things people say about Bruce Quinn, yet look at how many non-billionaire-owned stations in this state have a tie to Bruce Quinn.

Way to go, SIIIRRR!

Jim needs to put a muzzle on you, especially now that you are in full on attack mode. What "unchallenged BS" did I write before you created your account and came out swinging against the world? Read the thread. "CityRadio91.9" (who we can only assume is the "Jim" you refer to) was handling the questions others asked in this thread quite well before you came along an announced that WITT would be a left wing propaganda station.

Again, the frustrated guy comes out. The FCC is bad, every other station is bad - yet you're just going to do what everyone else has done?

Personally I think the station would be foolish to program to Marion County when your 60dB barely touches it. But that seems to be what you are destined to do. They would also be foolish to allow you to represent them one more day on the Internet ... but if yours is the impression they want to give ...

Good luck to CityRadio91.9 (or Jim as Indianamediaguy likes to call you) on your new station. Perhaps now would be a good time to set up a station internet use guideline before any serious damage is done?

To comment on those of Indianamediaguy, let me just say this. The Kids First board consists of
three local individuals. Mediaguy is not one of them. This project has been in the making
for about 15 years and there have been a number of very devoted supporters of this community
radio project contact us and work with us on various projects to raise interest in the
community and to seek needed volunteers and other supporters. This commentor is one of
them and we are very appreciative of his volunteer efforts and expertise to this date.

Needless to say, each of these folks have their own ideas on what the station should do. And
that is very healthy and an integral element in community radio. That said, however, it is up
to the board, the management, and the advisory council to put the stamp of approval on
programming and policies.

So what Indianamediaguy lists as his idea of the station is just that, his. There will be others
coming along with their ideas. That is what community radio is all about. Involvement and
an attempt by the station to implement some of those.

I cannot speak for others but only for the board at this point and the management once we
are on the air. So whatever anyone other than those folks say, please take with a pound
of salt. As I have said before, nothing is written in stone. Our main goal is to present another
voice in the airwaves of Boone, Marion, and Hendricks counties. Neither left or right necessarily.

Buzz off lurker. You are obviously just a bitter guy. Full attack mode? Look in the mirror.

I DON'T speak for WITT and never said I did. Nor did I announce that it would be a left wing station, just that there's room for another POV and that only in support of Cityradio91.9's thought that Pacifica might be a news source. You go back and read MY words.

I have absolutely no idea what the station will sound like. I support CityRadio91.9's thoughts entirely. And now I will find other places to dialog with people who really want a dialog and not an argument.

Cheers.

Aren't the LIBERALS suppose to be the ones "open-minded" to debate, dissent, and opposing opinion? ;)

Radio Mom 91 dot 1 is still around. They have a quite nice, and surprisingly rhythmic-leaning CHR format.

Their website is at http://www.radiomom.fm/ .

They seem to do a lot of community-oriented promotions & fundraisers. And, they certainly make more than a token nod to a public service commitment with their frequent, informative "community calendar" spots. Apparently a blogger named the Hungry Hoosier makes occasional guest appearances as well http://www.hungryhoosier.com/ .

Sometimes, you can even hear Bill Shirk on the air! :)

I am just very curious what they will do with their forthcoming licensed-to-Lebanon - but-serving-Frankfort signal at http://www.recnet.com/cdbs/fmq.php?facid=93231&jaws=0 . Seems like it would be an interesting idea to try to upgrade it to fill the hole left by Calvary Chapel's failure to build DWWTS before the deadline. They would just move their current CP down the dial and up the wattage. I hope that Hoosier Broadcasting is able to try some sort of locally produced format before selling to an out of town interest.

First major fund raiser for WITT 91.9 Zionsville !!!

Since everyone has seemed to cease prattling on as to whether WITT will lean left or right in their focus - it's worth noting the station will have their first major fund-raiser at Radio Radio (appropriately) Night Club in the Fountain Square neighborhood of Indianapolis on February 29. Something like four or five bands, a silent auction and who-knows-what surprises. The station has recently acquired their transmitter and gotten the OK to up their power to 6000 watts.

I thought they were going to be a community station for Zionsville. Why have the party in Indy?

Well, I hate to be Mr Obvious, but wouldn't YOU hold your fundraiser in the location of your target market - INDIANAPOLIS?

The FCC, in it's infinite wisdom, decided Zionsville needed a community radio station - why? To make a couple 'lottery winners' into millionaires.

That can be the ONLY reasoning behind the FCC allowing a NON COMMERCIAL, COMMUNITY station to go 6000 watts.

I didn't realize Zionsville was so big it needed a 6000 watt station to cover it's COMMUNITY EVENTS.

Save your time and don't give me an entire diatribe of how you will stay true to Zionsville Witt-guys, I'm sure that was/is your intention, but the sponsorship calling from Indy will be too great to NOT pursue it.

"But it will only help to 'enhance' what we can do for zionsville if we take Indy's money," they will say. But we all know what happened to Shelbyville, Brownsburg, Noblesville, Greenwood, etc - they are fringe communities, given frequencies for COMMUNITY BROADCASTING, then were allowed to blow up to several thousand watts --

Once again, the FCC fighting for the MILLIONAIRES (or in WITT's case - SOON to be millionaires - Congrats guys. Just don't ACT like you're going to try to stay local.

WITT 91.9 Zionsville

Hey Ho & RDO - It's called a metroplex - Centerville - Capitol City. If every station licensed to a neighboring village had only enough power to reach their town limits, you'd have to rely on shadow pictures for your amusement. What's your beef? These are common folks, regular radio guys, who've been working on this project with no money behind them for the better part of 20 years. No millionaires here and they aren't planning to sellout. Maybe they should just read the Zionsville grade school lunch menu, talk about fresh bricks for the streets, and report Boone County bowling scores to keep you two old grumps happy. All radio is local - unless the ownership is in NYC, the programming is dictated by a national conglomerate, and the jocks just arrived from LA. That ain't the case here. The stick's between Z'ville and Lebanon. Maybe to keep a few purists of Radio-Info happy, they should just broadcast stockyard reports, alfalfa growing tips, and discuss the flora & fauna of the fields. Yup, the first concert fund-raiser is in Indianapolis. It's part of the COMMUNITY. There's a wine and cheese party in Zionsville the next month. You're welcome to come to either one, but why bitch and moan when the Central Indiana area is finally getting a community radio station, programmed by local people for local people. Cheez...Get Happy! This IS local non-commercial radio, not a new Clear Channel money machine coming to town to fleece you! Lighten up...

Ministries are lining up already I'm sure to put their bid in on that Indianapolis Metro station. It will be worth well more than $1 million before it even gets on the air.

Non-profit? They can still make a mint.

And pardon me for assuming a radio station should actually serve its community of license. And they ALL start off that way, until they are given more power to reach Indy, then turn tail and leave the communities without a voice.

WITT may not do this, but it has happened to EVERY community surrounding Indy.

The Ho sez - "WITT may not do this, but it has happened to EVERY community surrounding Indy."

How many of those stations were non-commercial Community Radio stations? Do you understand the concept?

I understand a Non-com can be sold. I understand a non-com pays employees. I understand the CEO of KLOVE (nonprofit) made something over $250,000 last year. I understand WITT is non-com, but unless everyone is working as a volunteer, with NO one making paychecks, or taking any sort of compensation, THEN I'll be impressed.

So let's say I DON'T understand the concept - enlighten me. Please XPLAIN it to me.

But please SPARE the 'doing it for the community.' I'll believe that when I see it still happening a couple years from now. But beyond that, explain how a non-com will not earn income for those holding the license.
