An Update the accused Kingpin who allegedly got Lori Laughlin and others in the college bribery scandal has been Charged for fraud.

Alanna Durkin Richer and Collin Binkley, Associated Press

(AP) — Sacramento resident William “Rick” Singer, actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin and nearly fifty other people were charged Tuesday in a scheme in which wealthy parents bribed college coaches and insiders at testing centers to help get their children into some of the most elite schools in the country, federal prosecutors said.

"These parents are a catalog of wealth and privilege," U.S. Attorney Andrew Lelling said in announcing the $25 million federal bribery case.

He called it the biggest college admissions scam ever prosecuted by the U.S. Justice Department.

The bribes allegedly came through Singer’s admissions consulting company, Edge College & Career Network. The parents paid Singer approximately $25 million to help get their children into college.

while this thread really doesn't belong in the National TV section, but i will chime in on this.

the college education system has always been corrupt for years. college sports has seen it's share of corruption. the most famous example would be the SMU scandal of the 1980s that lead to the NCAA to give them the "Death Penalty". i wouldn't be surprised if the FBI, DOJ, SEC (not the conference, but the ones that handle stocks, if stocks were involved in it), and the NCAA are gonna be doing a joint investigation on this corruption in the college education system.

The problem here is that Lori Laughlin is a currently in a TV series (Fuller House/Full House) and theres uncertainty if the shows shes on is going to be cancelled due to these allegations.

They’ll just write her off the show or recast. No reason to cancel the whole 5th season for the mistake of one actress who isn’t even a regular. This is (unfortunately) the last season anyways.

I hate it for the whole rest of the cast. They did nothing to deserve this. They have been through some stuff but nothing like this.

Seems a bit more than a mistake. "I accidentally paid $xxxxxxx to have someone take my kid's SATs, then posed her for pictures as a high school rower"

An Update the former leader of KFMB-TV San Diego is also named in the College Bribery Scandal.

Among the wealthy defendants accused of paying bribes to assure their children’s acceptance into elite colleges are Elisabeth Kimmel, former owner of KFMB-TV, San Diego’s CBS affiliate, and Toby MacFarlane, a businessman from Del Mar.

Kimmel was arrested without incident at approximately 6 a.m. Tuesday at her home on La Jolla Rancho Road, FBI spokeswoman Davene Butler told NBC 7.

Kimmel is accused of participating in an illegal conspiracy to get her daughter into Georgetown University and her son into USC.

Her daughter’s application to Georgetown stated that she was a “ranked player” in Southern California Junior Tennis during high school, according to the criminal complaint (pages 143-153). But prosecutors said the U.S. Tennis Association, which operates the Junior Tennis program, has no record of the daughter’s participation in that elite program.

Now Tegna has issued a statement over the Former leader of KFMB facing bribery allegations.

SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) — At least three individuals with San Diego ties are among the nearly 50 people indicted in a widespread college admission bribery scandal announced by authorities on Tuesday.

The racketeering conspiracy case includes the parents of applicants, ACT and SAT administrators, a test proctor, and coaches at universities including University of San Diego, UCLA, USC, Georgetown University, Stanford University, University of Texas, Wake Forest and Yale.

Arrest warrants have been issued for all individuals named in the indictment.

Elisabeth Kimmel, who owned KFMB Stations for decades until it was sold to TEGNA, Inc. in 2018, and now lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, was arrested Tuesday morning at her home in La Jolla, according to a statement from the FBI. It was unclear when she would appear in court, according to a statement from the US Attorney's office.

Kimmel had two children who were accepted to Georgetown and University of Southern California. According to a criminal complaint, their acceptance to the schools was allegedly related to Kimmel's involvement with and payments made to admissions consultant, William "Rick" Singer.

Yes this is the same scandal that got Lori Loughlin.

The problem here is that Lori Laughlin is a currently in a TV series (Fuller House/Full House) and theres uncertainty if the shows shes on is going to be cancelled due to these allegations.

Why would they cancel the show due to these allegations? Characters get written out of TV shows all the time for a variety of reasons. How about cancelling the show because it was a bad idea to re-animate Full House to being with, and because it has run its course?

Netflix and the like have their own metrics, but a show that managed, what, five seasons was hardly a bad idea for the business.

Most definitely more than a mistake

Wonder what Hallmark will do with three Garage Sale Mystery movies in preproduction according to the IMDB? Keep Loughlin on or recast depending on how much has already been shot. The problems she is currently having may not even effect her working with Hallmark at all. Who knows.

Update Lori Loughlin is now detained for the college fraud allegations.

BOSTON -- Lori Loughlin was taken into custody Wednesday by the FBI in connection with the largest college admissions cheating scam ever prosecuted in the United States.

The actress, who is one of three defendants expected to turn themselves in the day after the news broke, returned to the United States from filming in Canada. Loughlin surrendered in Los Angeles, where one other defendant is also expected to surrender, while the third is in Boston, ABC News has learned.

Federal prosecutors in Boston on Tuesday charged 50 people, including celebrities like Loughlin and fellow actress Felicity Huffman, as well as CEOs and college coaches.

What is Operation Varsity Blues?

Authorities say the operation, dubbed Varsity Blues, uncovered 33 parents described by US Attorney Andrew Lelling as a "catalog of wealth and privilege" who collectively paid $25 million to a college admissions counselor named William Singer, who pleaded guilty and agreed to cooperate in an investigation into what Lelling called the "widening corruption of elite college admissions."

Here is another report

Actress Lori Loughlin was taken into custody by the FBI Wednesday in Los Angeles after she, fellow movie star Felicity Huffman and 48 others were charged in a $25 million college admissions scam that has prompted repercussions from Hollywood to the boardrooms of major companies.

Loughlin is expected to appear in federal court in Los Angeles later Wednesday to face fraud charges stemming from the nationwide investigation.

Loughlin, 54, flew to Los Angeles overnight from Canada, where she was filming a Hallmark movie, sources told ABC News.

(MORE: Mark Riddell, the 36-year-old who allegedly took exams for 'cheating' students, was 'just a really smart guy')
A former cast member on the ABC sitcom "Full House," Loughlin and Oscar-nominated actress Huffman, 56, are among 33 parents charged with conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud in the nationwide scam to get their children into elite colleges, including Yale, Stanford, Georgetown and the University of Southern California.

Apparently Loughlin was filming a show for Hallmark when it was announced that she was a fugitive for the College Fraud Scandal.

Now Hallmark has to make the decision to either change characters or cancel shows that Loughlin was in prior to the scandal.
