FIGHT CHRISTMAS MUSIC WITH CHRISTMAS MUSIC

I don't think I've heard any Christmas music on 106.7. My guess is that several stations are
not playing any Christmas music at all. Everyone is expecting B-98 to get a big boost (as they
usually do) from 100% Christmas. FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE! I think more stations should
add in some Christmas music...................then when listeners get to B-98 "Oh no, not another
Christmas song." "Didn't I just hear ROCKIN' AROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE 10 minutes ago on
97.1." Don't leave the windows wide open for B-98............lock them and make it harder for them
to get in.

"Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" by Bruce Springsteen, today. Rock 100.5 is falling down on the job if they want to be the resurrection of 96 Rock.

Sorry to sound like a Grinch lol, but I'm so glad Christmas music is confined to B98.5 - there are markets where all you hear are dumb Christmas songs every half hour on Hot AC and CHR (and almost no new music for an entire month)

I like hearing Christmas music on Christmas, when we're celebrating it

Jeez, Gregg, Caller 10 is not going to be happy with you.

Really? Do I have a reputation of liking B98.5 FM? ;D

On a serious note:

as something from actual (non-radio) people, here's from someone's Facebook wall this weekend. (Disclaimer I know person #1 is Jewish), I don't know the religion of person #2, but I do know here's proof someone misses her "all-80s weekends"!

Person #1: I really wish they would write some new Christmas music. It's unbearable. Ever wonder why suicide rate goes up at Christmas time? I tell you, it's the music.

Person #2: I am with you. Have really been missing my all-80's weekends! I would like to hear a few Christmas songs, but not ALL of them, in every language, arrangement, and style, ALL day long.

Person #3: I heard some new Christmas music here in England. It felt new and refreshing. And then I heard it all again and again and again ....

What I always hated was having to program Christmas music masquerading as Christmas music -- there are a number of high profile examples, but I hold a special hatred in my heart for the idiotic song "Last Christmas" by Wham. The opening line is "Last Christmas, I gave you my heart..." and that's about the extent of its relevance to the holiday season. But, this is mandatory playlist stuff for ACs programming seasonal music, and it really has nothing to do with Christmas.

The other one I always got a kick out of was Emerson, Lake, & Palmer's "I Believe In Father Christmas", which actually has the lyric "They sold me a dream of Christmas, They sold me a Silent Night, And they told me a fairy story, 'Till I believed in the Israelite". Which is about as anti-Christmas story as you can get!

How about some alternative Christmas music?

Big Bad Voodoo Daddies- Mr. Heatmiser
Los Lobos- Rudolph the Manic Reindeer
Denver and the Mile High Orchestra-Jingle Bells
Straight No Chaser- 12 Days of Christmas
Bob Rivers- Walking around in women's underwear[/list]

...and your suggestions?

can't go wrong with:

I farted in Santa's Lap - Little Stinkers
All I want for Christmas - Dirty Boys
Santa Claus and his old lady - Cheech and Chong
chipmunks roasting over an open fire - Bob Rivers
Blue Christmas - Seymour Swine
Chanukah Song - Adam Sandler
12 pains of Christmas - Bob Rivers

-amos

"12 Days of Christmas" by Bob & Doug McKenzie
"I Am Santa Claus" (Iron Man parody) by Bob Rivers
"The Restroom Door Said Gentlemen" by Bob Rivers
"Christmas At Ground Zero" by Weird Al Yankovic
"White Trash Christmas" by Bob Rivers

I reckon several of you took advantage of Bob Rivers' Christmas music giveaway on his website earlier this week...

By the way, I'm partial to "The 12 Days Of Guido Christmas" myself...

I wonder if the Beatles' "She's A Woman" could easily pass off as a Christmas song ("My love don't give me presents")...

Actually, this brings to mind the 99xmas soundtracks that were released...I'm not sure what the restrictions would be for the 99x but have they been playing anything from those cds? Seems like it would be a great thing to do since 99x was a huge proponent of the local music scene..those CDs just further enhanced that and promoted the local talent.

Now 106.7 is playing some Christmas music and some 80's stuff. GOOD IDEA.
Nobody is at home at B-98, invite their listeners to come in out of the cold.

Let me be the first to predict that although ALL CHIRSTMAS will do well, I don't
think it will do as good as it did in 2009 (in ATL and everywhere else).

Well, I wish you were right, because I HATE Christmas music. But I think you're wrong. In depressed economic times, it's this kind of palaver that people cling to.
