Finally, a picture of the old PCB Tower with the WPFM call letters

How long have we been looking for an actual picture with the call letters of WPFM?

Here's a picture of the old Top of the Tower (or House of Pizza) from 1986 (best year ever on WPFM ?!?)
showing the actual call letters that were painted over a few years later. It stood across from the tragically
now demolished Miracle Strip Amusement Park.

Found it on Facebook under "the group "I remember Panama City Beach when it was fun". Photo from Mr. Kent Bailey.

(you may have to paste the link to the actual picture)

There is also an video of the tower being demolished on the same Facebook group page.

Perfect timing, with Spring Break. Maybe someone can post memories, etc. of the old Great 108.

Where's the tower photo? I've looked through each of the photo albums and didn't see anything with teh WPFM call letters...

Hey Mark, it's photo 314 of a mere 601 on Facebook group
"I remember Panama City Beach when it was fun!!!"

I was able to just copy the entire link I provided above and get to it. Let me know if you're having trouble and I will e-mail you the photo.

WPFM had a studio up inthat tower as well. One of the 'PFM staffers, maybe it was pm driver Jeff Davis, said it was a mono set up and pretty rudimentary. Never made up the tower to look around.

NOPE....it was stereo complete with an Autogram AC8 console 3 ITC stereo cart machines and several studio microphones......it had a Marti STL-10 stereo STL.....I maintained it part of the time it was there.

wooten

Thats why you are the master of the radio (and RI) universe....CCENG. How can you remember all that exact stuff...nevermind.

Wasn't there a paraflector mounted somewhere up there?

Mr.Kent Bailey...hahah makes me sound so old Tibbs...( guess I am!) I took that shot early spring 1986. Thought it would be cool to broadcast from that tower BUT found out after I was hired that they wernt going to us it anymore! I've said it many times but looking back WPFM was the best station I ever worked at...didn't make any money but the staff was great!

Correct Mr Phr8trayn....it was a paraflector....also, the best moment from the tower was the morning when Birdman and Mr Lou watch a waterspout come ashore right at the the tower.....Bird freaked ! It was great live radio
