Finally- HD Radio Starts in Tallahassee (can anyone confirm?)

Heard on Gulf 104 yesterday- "now in high definition". I don't have an HD radio- can anyone verify? Likely, if Cumulus is broadcasting Gulf 104 in HD, some of the other stations in the cluster should be streaming as well. I could not find any mention of HD broadcasting on their website.

I emailed the Clear Channel engineer in Tallahassee to see if he knows....will let you know what I find out.

The term "HD Radio" is copyrighted. If they say HD Radio, I hope they are. The fact they said "high definition" can mean two things....if they are in HD, the jock doesn't know what he is talking about (seems there would be a lot of promotions about it), OR they are are pulling a "fast one" on the public

Well that would be nice, perhaps Gulf 104 is gonna play more new rock on the HD2 channel. Go Gators, yes, even Talllassie

If it's true, hope this HD station will have runaway success.

Still waiting for West Central Alabama to get at least one.  Not holding my breath though.  I may be dead and gone before that happens. ...And I'm now 37 years old.

With our population dropping like files, I don't see HD radio coming anytime soon.

P.S. ...Hey if my area never gets a HD Radio station, I won't lose any sleep over it.

West Central Alabama? Dude, are you kidding me, what is that like market # 496? Let's keep the chatter to the big boys here in the sunshine state. WABB will have its day soon............

Been to the Mobile area and liked the radio market. It has something, my area doesn't and that's variety.

I enjoyed the many radio stations your area has. Checked them out, a few years ago, while I was visiting and was impressed with them. I was especially impressed with Power 88 WBHY. Enjoyed their presentation and wonderful mix of music.

Glad that you don't live in West Central Alabama. This radio market would bore you to death. All we have is too much Urban, Chatter and nonsense.

Guys, thanks for the quick responses. You're right, the sweepers said "broadcasting in high definition", not HD Radio. The sweepers continue, but there are plenty of stations that featured similar sweepers before the equipment was actually turned on. I'm really curious about this, if hd trully has landed in market 164, I will get the equipment on my car to hear it.

Maybe a Tallahassee TV station is adding the Gulf 104 audio to a digital subchannel. That'd be the only way it'd ever be 'high definition', as HDRadio stands for 'hybrid digital'.

Charlie, can you provide any clarification on this? Maybe your colleague in Tallahassee can clarify.

Charlie,

Don't know if you know him, but I believe Cumulus' engineer is Peter Walkowiak.
Gulf 104 is one of the stations in the Cumulus cluster.

I can now confirm that WGLF is NOT transmitting in HD. They have a new computer system....but it isn't anything special....I guess the jock was BSing.
