First FM Skip of the season in Hudson Valley, NY.

Nice early start to FM DX season, Sunday evening May 6th, with three new logs. My rotor died, so I just climbed up on the roof and manually pointed the antenna west and hoped for the best.

95.1 - UnID religious station around 6:45pm giving "800-7000-CRI" phone number (Christian Research Institute). Perhaps unneeded KQCV-Oklah.

95.7 - UnID Spanish at 6:49, did not last. Perhaps needed KSEC-Ark.

89.5 - The Gospel Station, KTGS, Ada, Oklahoma first heard at 6:51pm, complete ID at 7:01pm, religious, for first NEW LOG of season and FM #890 overall. 1330 miles.

88.1 - unID "Positive Alternative - Air 1" at 7:20pm. Possibly KKRI-Arkansas, but ID not heard.

93.7 - KNOR - Krum, TX "La Raza" Spanish/Mexican at 7:24pm. NEW CATCH. 1403 miles. Station #31 on 93.7.

95.3 - KERX - Paris, AR "The X, 95.3, "Today's New Rock", at 7:29pm NEW CATCH. 1175 miles.

98.9 - unID Fairly strong station, around 7:40pm, then a minute later they and everyone else were pretty much gone.

Best of DX to all.

Not a peep of Es here, but i'm not too upset. It's only early May and I know i'll get my fair share of Es this season.

I just hooked up a new FM-6 antenna from Radio Shack and i'm pretty happy with it's performance. I hope it brings me several new FM logs.

Geez, and I thought that I was doing well with tropo ducting in pulling in WASH-FM 97.1 and WKYS 93.9 (both Washington, DC) from Malvern, PA. But, that's kids stuff compared with your e-skip!

Too bad there's a local here on 92.5 - it would be nice to pull in KOMA-FM via e-skip from Oklahoma City. It's one of America's best oldies stations and comes from the same general area as your catches.

I logged KOMA-92.5 last July 18th with Oldies during an E-Skip opening. However, during this May 6th opening I did not hear them, or anything else listenable on 92.5. When they were in last July, they came in like a ton of bricks!

They normally have a pretty decent range throughout central (and eastern) Oklahoma, with 100 kW coming from a slightly shorter stick than some of the other OKC stations. Which is why I figured they would be a good candidate for e-skip.

Last summer, when driving through OK, the wife and I listened to KOMA on the car radio from Elk City, OK to Fort Smith, AR. About 300 miles - no ducting involved. She actually lamented that we lost the station and she is neither a radio geek nor a particular fan of oldies radio. The station sounds that good.
