First Taste of ESPN Monday Night Footbal is Tonight

Tonight we'll get our first look into a new era in primetime NFL

Football. As I said, ESPN will have a tough act to follow NBC.

But at least they have one good thing.

Solid pre game show NFL Countdown.

It was great show when MNF was on ABC, and it will be even

better now that it's on ESPN.

I saw a preview of Tricio, Kornheiser, and Theismann together on sportscenter

I think from an announcing standpoint they will do ok.

Watching the game right now. The graphics and telecast are ok. But the one graphic i hate is the Scoreboard Bug. I have never seen a football scoreboard on the bottom center of the screen. Its weird. Its more suited for like a hockey game. Its a good scoreboard though. They have the messages pop out on the left and right side of the board, so you know which team have the ball. But I hope they tweak it next time and move it to the left top, like their other scorboards. Other than that I think its OK.

I love it. I am legally blind and have not been able to read any score bugs in years, even siting in front of the TV!

In contrast the new Fox score bug they were using the other night during the Colts/Rams game is abhorrible. I might as well be listening to the radio. I can't read anything, except the quarter dots.

Brian, did you give up on NBC's graphics too? Me personally, I like NBC's presentation so far.

I haven't been able to actually watch NBC's presentation yet. I am usually tuned in but over at the computer doing an Internet radio show while the game is on. I'll try to get a good look at it and let you know.

As far as Fox goes I did like the new graphics that were overlaid onto the field to tell you what down it was. The font is huge enough for me to see and I think it blended well with the field. Although it might be distracting to some of you.

After watching it myself last night, I Believe this will work.

Even Kornheiser sounded ok after the second half.

It was weird how they put the scoreboard on there like they did.

But maybe they made it visiable for people who still don't have HDTV's.

The Game itself was great considering it wasn't a blow out, and I think

with some curiousity it might get a good rating out of this.

They even made a reference to Vince McMahon mainly because Rod Smart

was playing for the Raiders (XFL) although I know it was done to mock the

WWE as it's competitor.

All and All I'll give it a good 8 1/2 out of 10.

Monday Night Football just looks like when ESPN had Sunday Night Football just a different night and different play by play guys. Other then that it looks good on ESPN. Only thing I dislike is the new score graphic, if ESPN keeps it I will just have to get used to it. They should at least move it to the top or lower it a little its to high. ESPN could also go back to the ESPN score box which worked well for many years.

Hi everyone:

Which is exactly why I think big FOX should use the same bug that FSN uses.

On top of that, as I indicated in another thread, they can customize the top right to the event they're telecasting (FSN does this all the time when they produce games for broadcast over local stations). For example, for an NFL game, they could use the NFL logo followed by the word "on" and the FOX logo. Instead they got (or at least HAD) those tacky looking fonts in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

Just my opinion though :D

Cheers :D
