FM Bandscan - 8 miles west of downtown Boston

This is a compilation of recent FM bandscans using some tecsun portables as well as vehicle radios (all on my property). The band is full to say the least. Note the very active pirate culture - and there are more in the city that dont make it out here.

Not all locations are xmtr location - some are COL or market. Sorry for the inconsistencies.

pirates seem to pop up where there is an under-served community (most likely a minority).

btw, i forgot one really obvious and ever present pirate on 88.5 which is haitian/creole

great catches. Hows that sangean pr-d5? I've been considering getting one to replace my CCRadio1.

One e-skip moment (before i knew what e-skip was!) from my childhood was catching 94.9 from Tallahassee in Burlington Massachusetts on a car radio as my father was doing some shopping.

I love the PR-D5! Nice solid radio and the batteries last SO long too.

It's great for AM. Has a 200 mm internal antenna.

The FM reception is very good too. It has the RDS function as well.

Wanted to add also that if you are mostly into FM DXing, you may want to consider the Grundig G8.

I got it for shortwave and it really does well with that only being barefoot but I discovered the FM sensitivity and selectivity is even better than the PR-D5.

The only thing is, you have to use a headset to hear the FM in stereo. While the AM reception is OK, I would not recommend it to be able to get the best catches.

Overall, it's a nice radio, especially for it's tiny size.

FM DX isn't really my thing. Thanks for the info on these two models though. The PRD5 is a definite.
