If I ever got lost in this forest, I wouldn't get hungry or thirsty. Thousands upon thousands of ripe huckleberries (yes, I had a container and picked a couple hundred) and red thimbleberries greeted me on this hike up the rushing DeRoux Creek in the middle Teanaway forest north of Cle Elum. Thankfully I didn't see any bears. The lake is very nice as well - multiple campsites away from the lake, looks over the Esmeralda Peak and Hawkins Mountain region south of Mt. Stuart. Tomorrow will be another hiking day! Probably one more next week before I wrap it up. Remote university classes will commence taking up a lot of the schedule. Not to mention hunting season will be in full swing by mid-September, and what I don't need is to be up in the mountains with a dozen camo-wearing deer and bear hunters off trail.
 
I moved my hike to today due to other circumstances on Thursday. Will be leaving later this morning and hopefully have a new thread from somewhere by tonight ;-)
 
Are you sure it wasn't KWJJ? You said KXL was in, and I don't see any other stations that would suggest KZZL would have been in.
 
107.9 Spokane was fading in and out, with no sign of the Portland 101.1 at the time. Very likely KZZL Pullman.
 
UPDATE - I went back today, 8/16/21. Instead of taking the right fork to Gallagher Head, I took the left fork which switchbacked to the trail for nearby Koppen Mountain. Due to time constraints, I did not reach the top of Koppen, but got up to a ledge around 5415'. The main objective of this hike was not to simply hike to a mountain and knock it off the list, but to gather huckleberries. Like last year, they were EVERYWHERE and nearly all were delicious and ripe! Filled a Sterlite container about three-quarters this afternoon with ripe huckleberries and some thimbleberries as well - they are very soft, red, taste similar to a raspberry. No bears this time around either, thankfully. Did hear two pikas, saw at least two chipmunks, and one of those small lizards, but no big mammals - and no other people either (everyone else must have been camping instead of hiking). Majestic view of Mt. Stuart at the turnaround location. FM scan very similar, with some differences:

88.5 - No KNKX Tacoma
90.5 - No KBLU Pilot Rock OR
91.3 - No CJZN noted
92.3 - No KGON or K222BP, just noted KZUS Ephrata
92.9 - Only KDBL, no other stations
93.1 - No CKYE
93.5 - KOZI-FM much stronger here mixing with KWDR.
93.7 - No KQFM
93.9 - No K230AX, just KTAC and KPDQ here and there
94.1 - KCLK Clarkston WA 195mi, nice signal at times then faded down to weak KSWD
95.5 - KBFF Portland OR 158mi, weak
95.7 - No KJR
96.1 - No KFOO, KXXO dominant with KLKY under

A close up of Mt. Stuart from my snack/lunch ledge at 5415'. This is zoomed in, but it's the closest I've ever gotten to Mount Stuart. Was not able to hike nearby Lake Ingalls this year, which is extremely popular with hikers due to its population of mountain goats (and kids). But Mt. Stuart is even closer from Ingalls than from here. - File sharing and storage made simple
