FM Bandscan at Jughandle Mountain (SE of McCall ID) 10/12/24

Conquerered one more summit before temperatures take a giant dump next week - and snow dumps in the mountains - and possibly a wet snow mix on Thursday morning on the valley floor. Pleasant with temperatures in the low 60s and amazing views, Jughandle Mountain was a little harder than nearby Boulder Mountain (summited on 8/31). It's a class 2 scramble up a boulder pile with occasional use of hands - and a lot of decision-making as to which boulder to hop to next. Most boulders were very strudy. Elevation is 8,310 feet - approximately 60 feet lower than Boulder. To get here you have to go to Louie Lake (2 mi. hike, pretty easy and a pretty lake as well, then about a mile of walking to leave the trail in a meadow. The meadow will lead you to the initial boulder pile. Views ranging from the Wallowas in Oregon, the Seven Devils Mountains near Riggins, entire Lick Creek range, Warm Lake area, Lake Cascade, McCall, Brundage Mtn, Payette Lake, and more. Couldn't find the Sawtooth Range, was hoping to see it. Several new logs as well.
The beautiful yellow and orange colors were a fall bonus! Lots of hikers, even some who were scrambling the boulder field. And several more at the lake, including families w/ kids.

99.1 KUJ-FM Burbank WA (NEW! // stream with McCall noisemaker translator off) / and then the noisemaker appeared. Supposedly it's K256AN McCall // KAWZ. Should change the callsign to K256NM - the NM for 'noisemaker'. That's all it is. Decibels of static and sometimes! NPR bleeds through. Oughta call CSN out for this. I'd rather it get sold off to a Boise radio operator to relay one of the adult hits stations (whether it's JACK or BOB).
99.3 tentative KQEZ St. Regis MT AND tentative on KMGW Naches WA too! These were very weak fadeups probably on aircraft scatter. The latter had Rod Stewart, but I couldn't confirm an ID. At only 790 watts, I want to hear an ID sweeper or Yakima ad before I confirm it.

103.1 K276GE Notus been a carrier only since last December. Occasional EAS Required Weekly & Monthly tests, and I've heard an Amber Alert on it. Then back to silence. AM's been off a little over a year now. *Reported that tower lights are also off.

What a waste of transmitter on 103.1. Get Salt and Light out there to shut down the translator for good. I have never received KFFI-LP up here in Valley County, not even on the 8000 ft. peaks. They are gone by the time you get past Dry Creek Ranch anyway on 55.

Today in Boise, there was another pirate on 97.3 mixed with River Club Radio. Strongest around Saint Alphonsus. 60s to 80s oldies with no IDs. Stereo signal. I could get them down Ustick a few miles to the west before River Club took back over. Announcements every couple of songs about events going on including a 21+ adult Halloween party next week.

My guess is you've heard several of the 200-300 mi. stations in the past from Boise before the HD and translator invasion? The KZIN catch was stunning! Now it would be nice to get Jackson WY as well...they are long-awaited and the KTIK translator barely makes it to Cascade...the Jackson 95.3 should be possible.

Haven't verified the actual location of the 97.3 pirate. But, it's strongest near the Boise Rock School on Fairview Ave..
And they've got a CP for a 97.3 LPFM.

1450/103.1 are owned by Centro Familiar Cristiano out of Seattle.

Good to know. That will knock the River Club pirate off the air if it does make it to full LPFM status. My guess is they use that transmitter to feed out to the rest of the golf course. The music variety is a combo of 1970s-1990s classic hits/rock and country from 1990s to the early 2010s.

I don't get why KECH-95.3 didn't make it to the summit. KDPI-88.5 is only 110 watts and was solid. Even more amazing was the KHLY-1440 translator on 103.7, also solid but weak. Also...no sign of KIKX-104.7, a 100,000-watt monster!

Likely that 102.1 with Kim Komando was the KQQQ Pullman translator. I haven't confirmed Twin Falls yet, but have heard country fadeups down at the lakeside (when I take out the HD hash from 101.9).
