Speaking of 87.9 FM, back in 2002 and 2003 there used to be an FM pirate operating in the Chicago area. The station in question was Radio EuroStar and they used to broadcast in the Czech and Slovak languages 24 hours a day. First noticed by me in August of 2002. They had a good signal and used to be heard very well in the Chicagoland area. They were still on the air on 24 hour basis in June of 2003. They used to be audible in my home in Wood Dale, Illinois and in the western suburbs of Chicago. They were also audible on my car radio driving to work all the way up north in Lincolnshire, Illinois. They were reported by other DXers as far as Barrington, Illinois. They were most likely located at the northwestern part of Chicago. I have noticed their signal to be best in the area of Irving Park Road and Harlem Avenue in Chicago. Incidentally, there is a quite a large Czech & Slovak community in that area. If I had to guess their power must have been at least 100 Watts in order to get out so well. The station used give out a phone number on the air (773-725-6039), and they used to play Czech and Slovak pop and rock music.
