FM Frequency of the week for Nov 12th: 87.75 and 87.9

Speaking of 87.9 FM, back in 2002 and 2003 there used to be an FM pirate operating in the Chicago area. The station in question was Radio EuroStar and they used to broadcast in the Czech and Slovak languages 24 hours a day. First noticed by me in August of 2002. They had a good signal and used to be heard very well in the Chicagoland area. They were still on the air on 24 hour basis in June of 2003. They used to be audible in my home in Wood Dale, Illinois and in the western suburbs of Chicago. They were also audible on my car radio driving to work all the way up north in Lincolnshire, Illinois. They were reported by other DXers as far as Barrington, Illinois. They were most likely located at the northwestern part of Chicago. I have noticed their signal to be best in the area of Irving Park Road and Harlem Avenue in Chicago. Incidentally, there is a quite a large Czech & Slovak community in that area. If I had to guess their power must have been at least 100 Watts in order to get out so well. The station used give out a phone number on the air (773-725-6039), and they used to play Czech and Slovak pop and rock music.

In Ellensburg, 87.75 / 87.9 are blank and severe KCWU slop, respectively. Years ago when I lived in western Washington, 87.75 could nab a weak to decent audio signal from CHEK-TV Victoria BC on the higher hills, and much better north of Everett. CBWT Winnipeg, XETV Tijuana, and KRMA Denver were all logged in the old analog days, KRMA being a nightlight signal post-6/12/09.
87.9 used to have occasional pirates, including one that played dance/techno-type music in the Mill Creek/Lynnwood area.
A couple of times, there were cable leaks in the neighborhood where I grew up, and KONG-16 (cable ch 6) could be heard on 87.75.
Never heard KOIN-TV's audio from western Washington, even though KINK, KKCW, and KUFO/KXL were tropo regulars on FM.

OT as oldradiotapes mentioned this...we had morning announcements in middle school but not in elementary school. There were daily announcements on the intercom, and a weekly program played on the middle school's cable system. I believe the program was broadcast on channel 60. Students in the video production class produced and hosted it, and they weren't solely student council folks. We did not do 'Channel One' like in other districts, I'm guessing the administrators were against the commercial advertising. They also did not use the system for surveillance either. The elementary school only used the TV whenever we watched an educational VHS video, but it did have the local analog Seattle channels available. All of the TVs were Mitsubishi as were the VCRs.
Also OT to Schrodinger's Cat...where did Peter Moncure live? I don't understand how he was able to get 35 different channel 2's on a regular basis. Unless these were through meteor bursts and weak E-skip openings. Even with the best dishes, you could only get a few channel 2's at one time.

I was reading up on an Australian who was picking up channels all the time. Apparently F2 propagation is likely to give you the same channels, or something, right?

Moses Lake, WA: 87.75 is completely blank; there's a Spanish-language religious pirate on 87.9 that's been on since 2016ish.

Until July 13 of this year, WJMF-LP (then branded 87-7 The Bridge) was broadcasting on 87.7 FM (which is now vacant). On that date, the station signed off for good, as per FCC requirements.

However, its format--classic hits--moved to WZQK (1240), and its translator, W232DD (94.3).

From October, 2020 to July, 2021, WZQK's format was classic country.
