FM News 101.1 flips to I101 as Adult Hits/Hot AC

As both WIQI and WEMP in NYC both Drop the FM news for music formats in Chi-Town and NYC......

thoughts on WIQI's format.....would this go directly against WTMX Mix 101.9....

Nah, the FM will end up bringing in more dollars for BBM if it hasn't already. They would have had to do it sooner or later, and with Fresh failing and an unknown competitor coming into the mix, it was the right time to do it.

I've heard three titles from 2001 in the 30 minutes I've been listening. Nice nostalgia to go back to my junior high days, but didn't Randy already get the memo that Gen X radio has failed almost everywhere it's been tried. I think putting a "Jack" here or on 87.7 and moving the Alternative to 101.1 would have been a better idea.

I wonder if Benjamin (alias Randy) will insult the most likely potential listeners to i101, just as he did with FM News when he shunned WBBM's audience in multiple interviews. That was such a brilliant business strategy on his part...

If I were one of his equity backers, I would've been screaming at him to cut it out.

I am sure they are still working out the bugs and it could be the net stream, but I am hearing lots of dead air between some of the songs like if a cue tone did not kick the next event to start or either a slack board op not doing something right, but atleast the music is pretty good. Can hear a lot of the same songs on different stations, but pretty good music on one place. How does the over the air audio sound? CC1

I know talking about audio quality is like talking about the weather but the station sounds terrible online. How does it sound OTA?

Didn't CBS kill off 105.9 FM AC for WBBM News back in 2010 because the 105.9 FM AC format failed back then? I know 105.9FM is somewhere in the top 5 in the Chicago Market I know they range between a 4.7 to 5.9 in the ratings books just like how KCBS 106.9 failed as an Oldies station in 2008 under the KFRC-FM call letters. I understand KCBS 740AM/106.9FM is similar to WBBM-FM situation that they are in the top 5 in the San Francisco market and they range as high from a 6.6 to as low as a 4.7 in the books.

Man... even with all of the money they're saving by cutting staff, they can't manage to make a couple quick changes to their processing? Sounds like they're still using the News 101 processing. 'BBM on 105.9 even sounds better.

On another note, this station was immediately removed from my preset's as soon as I heard Nickelback's 'Photograph'.

Gee Chris...you really gave up after they played one song you didn't like? How long have you "been in radio?" ;D

Why shouldn't 101.1 return as Q101 V2.0???

Q101 is online so wouldn't it make sense to return it on-air as before - let's face it, it was extremely popular.

I'm sure it would rate a lot better than this so called i101

Heck, i101 could just change to Alternative and keep its current moniker.
I'm agreeing with this. Move Q here and either buy the rights to the Q101 brand or name it something else, perhaps i101 or x101.

Was only joking haha. It's just amazing how Merlin seriously thinks that this is going to make a dent in the ratings. The insane mess of a playlist makes it something that I definitely would not want to have playing in a workplace... but then again, I'm not in the target demo ;)

Just listening to i101 now. Sound quality needs to improve dramatically. Hard to adjust the bass in the car. BUT...love the music. I like how they have captured some of the dance product sound from B-96 when it was Party Radio in the early 90s. Not too shabby!
