For sale on eBay: Atlanta Metro AM Radio Station

As big as the market is (20 Counties), saying "Atlanta Metro" doesn't mean much when you have a Kilowatt.

This station has been listed with practically every marginal 'broker' in the business over the years. Ya know, there's a reason why these things don't sell...actually, usually, several reasons.

I talked to the seller today. He REALLY thinks he can get that price. I'm looking for some dark stations if anyone can tell me where they are.

Thanks!

In the words of Sponge Bob Square Pants ... "Well, good luck with that".

If he COULD have gotten that, he WOULD have by now. There's a sucker born every minute, so I won't rule it out. However, I'd guess it'll snow on July 4th in Miami before he does.

It's amazing how many owners I encounter on a regular basis who belive their stations are worth three or four times what they actually are. After all, it's a RADIO STATION! It HAS to be worth a fortune!! ...even if the studios are falling apart and the tower leans and sales are three grand a year.

Hi Josh!

Let me know if YOU come up with any bargains and I would be GLAD to grab them up!

Thanks!

Okay, but offer the certs, button, and lint first. Only throw in the $1.72 as a last resort. If you have to include the cash, you'll have overpaid...

Re: What from Atlanta reaches there?

It looks like about 10 FMs get into the market, including two which are non-commercial.

WSB gets there definitely, but so does WCNN. Those, however, are the only AMs other than WYYZ that get there well.

I've always been amazed at the vastness of the Atlanta metro. To imply that a siignal in Jasper is an "Atlanta" stick is quite misleading, although technically true.

If you look at what other AMs closer to Atlanta have sold for over the past few years, $750k for WYYZ seems rather high. Just my opinion, but I do know a thing or two about valuation...

North Georgia has soil that "eats" A.M. ground wave. Some jokingly claim that the charts show a NEGATIVE conductivity factor. If you get out and drive the county you find that WYYZ has trouble reaching the entirety of Pickens County during the daytime. To suggest that buying the station buys into 'Metro Atlanta Coverage' is a bit of over-enthusiasm.

To say that there are 10 FM signals reaching the market does not fully color in the picture either. WLJA may be licensed to Elijay, but the studios are very prominent in downtown JASPER. Listen to them awhile and you realize THEY are the Jasper station these days.

Then there is WNSY. They function as a Canton station; their transmitter is in Elijay, but their city of license is Talking Rock, something of a 'non-city' which has city limits butting up against Jasper. If Sunny 100 ever decides what it wants to be when it grows up, it could "own" Jasper.

Re: What from Atlanta reaches there?

Now that you mention it, I've heard a whole lot of people say that North Georgia has some of the most horrible ground conductivity in the country.

So, after reading your post, here's what I gather: WYYZ is actually worth even LESS because there are some nearby FMs which serve Jasper.
