Format Flipage In The GSP Market Creates A Pucker Factor of #9!

Clear Channel won't do anything with those two stations. They do too well and they currently have the monopoly. I have always wondered how 92.5 does 25-54 though. I've always thought of them as having an older demographic. I'm from here and rarely listen to the country format.

92.5 and 100.5 were both top 5 in the spring 25-54. dont see cc flipping one of those.

96.7 would have to move closer to Spartanburg if they want a translator there unfortunately.
Maybe they can get on the same tower as 103.3/94.1 or the same one as 106.3 and easily null it north from Asheville's 96.5
or south from 96.7 in Columbia. They could have a similar coverage area as the current 103.3 WOLT if they did that...
Or they can probably add 96.7's feed on an HD-2 of 92.5/100.5/102.5 and create a translator in Spartanburg that way.
98.1 is getting their translator thru WJMZ's HD-2. I think the 94.1 translator can and should move a few more miles east
and still be in 107.3's 60 dBu contour.

If 96.7 retained its class A status and moved to the 103.3 tower, they then would lose their solid coverage in the Greenville county/Easley area. I get a little static from 103.3 (which is an awful signal to the SW) in Simpsonville, Mauldin and even Woodruff Rd, but 96.7 covers this area fine. That's tough coverage to give up.
I would try to set up a feed on another station to get a translator in downtown Spartanburg. I believe their 60 dbu ends around Wellford. Have never listened to them in that direction, so I don't know how good or bad the signal is.

Surprises me that 92.5 is able to be top 5, but I guess I'm not really their target and that seems to be what this market likes. Forgot to mention earlier, but I think 99.9 WKSF sounds better than either of the Greenville country stations.

Oh, talking about getting a lot of country stations, I think Religious/Christian has that beat....from my house below Simpsonville/Fountain Inn, I can get:

660 (not the 92.9)

I also hear something around town occasionally that sounds like Christian rock/rap on 95.7.

Rock 101 has apparently ran outta TV ad money for that rediculously bogus 20th aniversary. Just in case you missed it, I'll repeat the facts: We changed the calls in September of '91. So, the WROQ calls won't be 20 until September. When you reach December, the current Classic Rock format, under the heading of Rock 101, will be 24-years.
Who ever launched that embarrassssssment, should be voted off the island. MY has loaded the Big music guns for this Fall, but MAGIC &
B-93 still have a chance...they do! MAGIC needs to dump all those worthless Country-crossover records, and hire someone who knows the music. B-93 needs to dump all of those worthless Hip-hop records, and hire someone that knows the music. They need to act this week, if they are serious about the Fall book. Speculation: Since MY flipped format, they may not roll all Christmas on November the 15th. As for MAGIC, No,...it is still not a good idea, either.

Clear has made poor format choices for 96.7. It is a 3 share signal tops and you can't really try to compete with anyone directly using that signal. That is why I keep saying you could stick classic hits on there with low overhead and do decently....overlap with WMYI is no longer an issue

Like hip hop or not, B93.7 is playing all of the "hits" at the moment, which just happen to include that kind of music. I don't care for a lot of it myself, but they claim to play "all the hits", and that's what they're doing. Magic has tweaked a little in the past couple of weeks but I think they've done more harm than good.

It is not that surprising you can hear that many country stations. I can think of many places that can hear that many. Here at home in WNC, I can hear the following:
Triad: 93.1, 104.1
Triangle: 94.7
Charlotte: 103.7, 96.9
Asheville: 99.9
Morganton-Lenoir: 92, 103.3
Boone: 106.1
Galax: 98.1

And sometimes, the GSP stations...

And out of that whole list, only 98.1 in Galax is actually country.

We don't have an old-leaning AC, classic hits, nothing. Very strange and if I were one of these low rated signals, I would jump on the chance....in my opinion, that is by far the biggest hole

Some people on the west side get 104.5. I don't know how much older stuff they play but I would imagine a lot of it is.

You know I'm a country music junkie, so you know my dream would be for Cox to buy 94.5 and flip it to country to compete with Clear Channels monopoly in this market... I know it doesn't make sense but one can dream, right?

then country could remain in AVL on 104.3.

Where I go in the mountains, on FM I can only pick up 94.5 (classical/sacred), 95.3 (NPR), 95.9 in Kingsport (active rock), 96.5 (sort of), 99.9, 104.9 (classic rock), 105.9 (everything that rocks), and 106.9 (Christian AC with some preaching). 92.5 and 93.3 work sometimes, and 101.1, 101.5 and 104.3 occasionally. I don't think people in that area would go for it.

You're probably right, when I was in the town of Cherokee NC and even going east to Maggie Valley NC,
the only station that really came in the best (or in some places, at all) was 99.9 and even that had some weak spots
due to the huge mountains of the Smokeys right next to the roads. Lots of those away from Asheville wouldn't like a 99.9/104.3 swap,
but 99.9 does really care mostly about Asheville / Buncombe County since that is their home market,
not even Greenville where it can be heard great as well.

Very doubtful CC would ever do any swapping in Asheville. KISS owns the market, and did pull in well over 500K a month. That billing figure could be down slightly from a few years ago, but not a lot.

Agreed, it wouldn't make sense to move it because trust me, country is probably MUCH more popular than CHR in WNC overall. CC Asheville only cares about the WNC portion of WKSF's coverage.
