Former Free-FM WYSP Leads PPM Cume Gainers Again; WHYY Posts Big Increase, Too

The 12+ cume is available here:
http://www.radio-info.com/content/arbitron.php?market=philly_cumes

Note that the data was collected from August 23 to September 19, of which roughly one quarter included WYSP's current format as a rocker.

So imagine the surprise when, upon crunching the numbers, I discover that WYSP was the biggest cume gainer in this period! This on the heels of them being the big cume gainer in the last period, also.

Following 94 WYSP as the cume gain leaders this period were WPHT (likely buoyed by the Phillies' playoff run) and - here's a real shocker - public radio WHYY! This after 'HYY actually lost 27500 last period...

Does this mean CBS was quick to do an about-face on WYSP, or is it likely their huge cume was due to interest in the new format? It would be interesting to see a week-by-week breakdown of their progress during this period.

Here are the six biggest gainers in order of cume:

GAINERS
1. WYSP +181500
2. WPHT +142000
3. WHYY +93000
4. WIP +84400
5. WUSL +79000
6. WMMR +66800

Meanwhile, among the biggest losers, B101 led the pack with -101100, which matches their frequency! Also of note, for the first time, Radio 104.5 actually loses cume while, as seen above, WMMR appears to have gotten its mojo back...

WRDW (-78900) and Ben-FM (-66200) are the second and third biggest losers, respectively...

Also noteworthy that, after losses last period, AAA WXPN and even classical WRTI on the left end of the dial have made huge gains, while Sports Radio 950 WPEN establishes unregisterable cume numbers once again.

From what I hear, WRFF is still the leader of the three Rock outlets.

Only if you don't count WMGK as a rock outlet. And WRFF is almost in a statistical tie with WMMR.

WMGK has 1,063,100, WRFF has 934,400, WMMR has 927,700. WYSP has a long way to go at 621,600.

The link above didn't work. Not sure if this one will.

MGK is a rock outlet.

btw, what do 105.7's ratings look like?, probably not too high in philly, bacause you start losing it in the NE Philly area after Bensalem

It amazes me that WMGK gets those inflated ratings, listening to the same three songs day in and out by David Bowie gets old REAL FAST!

Yes, but MMR has the number 1 morning show. RFF has nothing. So really musicwise, for RFF to gain that much, and MMR to lose that much during all other times of the day, RFF must be killing MMR outside morning drive. Which ofcoarse means RFF is killing MMR head to head in music.

The next ratings book will tell the tale for YSP. Coming off the summer, with the new format solidified and the Eagles games in full stride. If they made the right choice, it should show in October's numbers.

Judging by the trends, that doesnt look to last much longer...
