FORMER KILT ED CHANDLER SAYS BYE TO THE BIG CITY

Just read on Ed's Facebook page that he has accepted the programming position at Classic Rock "THE RIVER 106.1" and ac "MIX 96.5" in Kerrville which is just north of San Antonio. If you recall Ed walked out on KILT a few months ago before the axe fell on H&H. Maybe he saw the writing on the wall.

About time we had some good news about a Houston DJ. Chandler sounded smooth-pro-big time radio each time I heard him. My still (I think) impeccable KILT source alleges Ed was jerked around for four years by the PD at KILT. Guess that would be the often mentioned, Mr. Garrison. Side bar: CBS today fired the PD at the giant Chicago country outlet, WUSN. USN is in sixth place in the ratings, wow, KILT would kill for that. Is there a dot connection in this story? Maybe... Mr. Garrison is the VP of Country radio for CBS. Have to wonder if his managment style has smothered the Chicago outlet. If the G-man ask me for advice, I would say, "don't buy anything on time."

Also, is there anyway Legends could get more power and better coverage? Confession for the day, I'm sick of hearing Taylor Swift songs. I will back off now, I know I'm wearing out my welcome. I absolutely love reading everyone's posts.
20oz.

I wonder if they also need a semi-retired engineer out there in that country. I'd move out there in a heartbeat.

Good luck Ed. You deserved something good. You are too good for KILT.

20 OZ, you are not wearing out your welcome. A forum works when folks are participating by posting. Your remarks are welcome.

They've supposedly got 100,000 watts, but licensed to Cleveland.

And they do indeed have 100,000 watts, but it's licensed to Cleveland. It's unable to move any closer than it already is due to short-spacing rules.

Here's the latest on Ed courtesy of his Facebook page. Turns out he's doing quite nicely:

"At the end of my second week as Program Director for "SUNNY 96.5" and "THE RIVER 106.1" and today I was promoted to Program Director of our country station "92.3 THE RANCH" as well as being Operations Manager for all three stations and starting Monday I start doing the morning show on our country station. Thanks for your prayers, my cup runneth over."

Garrison is the head of programming of all cbs country stations? Wow! Isn't Phoenix, Houston, Seattle and others all getting their asses kicked? And from what I read on here he has no people skills. How does he keep his job? Must be some lame Management. Pat-Na must be rolling over in his grave :D

It seems that Ed is doing really well at his new station. He wrote on his Facebook page yesterday that the country station he's programming got a 34 share and the ac station he programs was the highest cumed in the area. The three stations he programs 923 The Ranch, Sunny 96.5 and The River 106.1 are #1,#2 and # 4 in the market. I bet Jeff Garrison wishes he could say that. Just shows that KILT didn't know what they had when they had it. Too bad. Houston is missing out on a great programmer.

I didn't know Weatherford was a rated market. I'm pretty sure the days of a country station being #1 in Houston are long gone.

Big A, Ed's not in Weatherford. His stations are in Kerrville about 50 miles west of San Antonio.

OK, didn't know Kerrville was a rated market. His stations don't show up in the San Antonio book, and are at the bottom of the DFW book. In any case, I'm sure he's very happy being out of the rat race.

It's not a rated market, but, at least prior to PPM, you could still figure out how you were doing. Most every county was part of someone's TSA, and you could look at the county-by-county breakdowns. Of course, those were only released once-a-year and were subject to a large amount of wobble and reliability questions because of the small sample size.

The stations that Ed programs are all encoded for the PPM and Sunny 96.5 showed up in the latest San Antonio book. The country station showed up in the previous one. They may have some sort of independent rating service for the counties that the stations cover.

Oh, I'm sure KILT knew - but certainly it's not Ed's fault that local 7 PM-midnight hosts are just starting to become a dying breed in radio... Good to see a success story at a new station after what happened at KILT.

FWIW, here is what he wrong May 19 on Facebook:
"Radio facebook friends, are you ready for this? According to the latest ratings for the Texas Hill Country our country station 923 THE RANCH has a 34 share. That's thirty four! Wow! Sunny 96.5 has the highest cume and the River 106.1 is tied for #4 overall. Out of a 10 station market we are #1, #2 and #4. Onward and upward."
