The former owners of the New York Mets are exploring a sale of SNY, the team’s regional sports network, according to multiple people familiar with the plans.

The Wilpon family, which sold the team last year to Steve Cohen for about $2.42 billion, are considering multiple options for its majority stake in the network, said the people, who were granted anonymity because the talks are private. A deal is not certain, and the group could eventually elect to retain some or all of SNY, the people said.

They have to sell now before the network is worthless. Cohen can get out of the Mets rights deal in 10 years. So selling the network to him is really the only option.
 
If they're looking to get into streaming and other offerings because the amount of "cord cutters" has caused a reduction in the amount of TV viewers, why not brand it a Bally's Sports, as was recently done with the former Fox regional sports networks? Bally's is already set up with decent offerings aside from just pushing their signal out to TV viewers.

Sinclair doesn't own it.
 
how long before "Diamond Sports Group"/Sinclair Broadcasting Group/Entertainment Studios buys out SNY and turns it into Bally Sports New York.
