Former owner of WHJJ and WHJY in ICU

This is very sad news. I hope that he pulls through. On my very first trip to California in 1983 my Brother and I took a late night drive through Hollywood one Saturday night. We drove by the Merv Griffin studios on Vine St. We figured that we would stop in and see if we could get a glimpse of anything good. At 2 in the morning the only person there was a lonely looking security guard. We talked him into letting us inside to use the bathroom.

We went down the hall and saw Merv Griffin's studio with the door wide open. It was incredible to see the SET where all that history took place. My brother and I went in and snapped two paloroid pics of the studio. I wish I still had them. But it was kind of dark and the pics didn't come out that good anyway. Then we got the hell out of there pretty quick so we didn't get caught screwing around.

But Merv always seemed like a great guy. I wish I actually had the chance to meet him. Hopefully he'll pull through all this and be ok. Unfortunately it doesn't sound promising at this point. I'll say a prayer.

A sad day in the entertainment world, indeed. I remember when Merv was the owner of radio stations WWCO in Waterbury, Ct. as well as WPOP in Hartford, Ct. He may have also been owner of WIOF, Waterbury/Hartford, but I could be wrong on that. :(

i thought this thread was going to say it was John Franks who passed-the immortal owner of HJJ and HJY who turned one to talk and one to rock. he was dust in a suit when i worked with him so i have a feeling he may have gone at this point.
